I assure you, worms and rats and the like thrive in the subway...

Subways are bore-hole drilled these days 'round here, BTW.

How certain are you that it's the cigarette smoke that gives you the headache? Have you controlled for other variables? Have you tested your hypothesis?

The tobacco companies will be more than happy to send a team of researchers to look into this. I have no doubt that they'll tell you that it's something else entirely.

          Do you own a car?

I can understand non smokers complaining if their apartment smells like smoke. That would suck.
I would complain to the land lord and have them do something about it. If they don't, it's time to find a different place to live.

It seems that I have. Since I returned from China, I don't know anyone who smokes. And like JM, I'm grateful for being able to go to clubs and bars without coming out smelling like an ashtray (although I still end up smelling like a bourbon bottle).

Yes, I'm certain it's the smoke. I never had them before the smoke, I don't have them at work, but when I come home and the guy starts smoking...an hour later I get a headache.

I do. About once every two weeks I drive it about 1.5km each way to get groceries...

I take the subway + streetcars to get to work or downtown on the weekends. My SO takes public transit to get from Waterloo to Toronto each weekend also.

Ditto. I don't know or work with anyone who smokes. Then again, I keep bright company...frankly, someone my age...if they're smokers it shows some serious mental deficiencies at best.

It's a good thing to hang out with smart people. Young smokers never fit in that category.

                        Admit it.

Your SO is a cat, and you keep all of your friends in plastic balls running around your apartment.

I have had this same problem. Except the smoke came up through the floorboards via the waterheater pipes (not inside the pipe itself, but through the gaps in the holes the pipes pass through).

But it wasn't cigs, it was weed. I don't smoke the stuff, it has a planty smell (and taste) to it, but it's still not a nice smell.

That was back in NZ I won't have this problem in Singapore, if you're caught with weed here, you'll be hanged.

                              No, electric.

My car is a small, modern car and the individual pollution from driving a couple km a month in it is more negligible than I think you know.

Most importantly, I don't run my car inside my apartment which then vents directly to other people's. Further still, even if I did, it wouldn't smell nearly as bad!

I don't have a cat yet. I feel my apartment is too small, such that it'd be cruel to a cat.

Later this year when I move, I'll get a couple.
