  • Nothing in life prepared me for the job of chaperone

After having spent a sizable proportion of this life screwing anything that moved I feel put upon when I get stuck with the job.

Thankfully it doesn't happen very often. Mostly when the women and kids are busy doing whatever.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

That and I just got outa church. With the catholics its like aerobics, tough on the knees. I love the sweet voices of the filipinas though and the acoustics in the old spanish church, like I imagine angels sing.

One thing Krill, don't get me wrong. I like the fact that there are chaperones here and that people consider virtue highly. I just don't like to be one. (Erm, a chaperone that is)

What exactly does a chaperone do? Is it basically to stay out of the way?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Wow, people don't know what a chaperone does?

I've done it before. Basically you keep another pair of eyes there.

A chaperone goes where the people there don't want them to go. Once there, just exist.
