    • I did not "mind" school in 1st year and only skipped about 10% of my classes.

By second year it was about 35% skip rate.

By third year it was closer to 65%.

By fourth year it was hovering around 95% skip rate, where the 5% were classes which had quizes before (and I'd leave after the quiz).

I basically had a whole year off in fourth year, except for the all-nighters before an exam or before a big project was due.

      • I think previous to my senior year, I had missed a total of 5 classes (even went to class when I was sick). I wasn't quite so good about attending my senior year.

Now, I normally went into class, and fell asleep (as I was sleeping 2-4 hours per night). But I still spent a lot of my time in the physics building hanging out with people there, using the computers there, occasionally doing homework (usually not until midnight? and I didn't generally do much of it).

I swear I learned through osmosis. I would fall asleep with my head on my textbooks and the physics/math would absorb into my brain.

        • I skipped ~50% of my classes in undergrad
~95% of my required classes in grad school (not exaggerating; for 4 of them I attended 1 regular class (1st day) 1 midterm and the final)
~15% of my non-required classes in grad school

          • Yeah, I skipped a lot of my classes in graduate school (the ones I wasn't interested in). I went to all of the ones I was interested in (basically).

That was an early sign of me being tired of school.

I would have my freinds turn in my HW for me and give me the assignments. It was wrong of me to do this though, as some of these classes were the only ones I have ever not done at least OK in.

            • Oh, I skip most of my classes. Lectures are typically the boring parts of school (except for certain awesome profs).

              • I always felt that going to class was just something you had to do.

A few people got upset at me due to always falling asleep though.

                • Lectures in classes like History and International Relations and such are somewhat more interesting than math and science lectures...

Heck, some of my Econ classes were basically like Poly, with certain members of our esteemed brotherhood sitting in the first row, arguing with the professor like idiots...

                    • Indeed, the history and philosophy lectures were most boring.

The philosophy ones were not only boring, but insufferable. The profs liked to engage the classes in discussion, which resulted in ******** philosophy students arguing why it is not ethical to save a burning baby.

                      • Sounds like you went to a crap university then.

Or that you took an 'applied ethics' class, often not intended for real philosophy students.

                              • By the way, I rarely purchase a book that agrees with me, as I figure 'what is the point?'

But I did purchase "The Trouble with Physics"

He says a number of things I want to say, but better, which is the reason I purchased the book.
