What was the motive for the Mumbai attack?
At one level, to instill shock and awe worldwide, much like the 9/11 attacks. On the regional level, there may be another motive. Jihadis in Pakistan have been under pressure, especially under the new President (Asif Zardari), because of the ongoing military operations in Waziristan. The jihadis’ strategic objective was to break down the rapprochement between India and Pakistan. If that happens, Pakistan will be forced to pull back units operating against the Taliban and move them to the border with India. That would ease pressure on the Taliban.Comment

Rah: they did indeed deliberately attack a Jewish religious centre in addition to their primary attacks. It is amazing to see what people will focus on sometimes.

Btw, the concept of respect for the territory of other nations isn't all it is cracked up to be. There's also a concept of respect for the life of foreigners that rely on you for protection. The poor German response in Munich in 1971, reportedly lead to a serious decline in Israeli respect for other nation's territory for a long period.Comment

The population in these countries have embraced humanist and secular values, so when you say "Christianity has mostly matured" don't you mean to say that in these liberal states, people have mostly turned away from Christianity and that's why their societies have matured?“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.
