  • Looks like Obama will win by a healthy margin. What's the read on the Senate?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

      • I'm a little curious why Ben wants McCain to win. Is it because of his beliefs in God?

IIRC, you are completely deaf, if you had lost all your senses, how would you believe in God? Wouldn't you rather vote for someone who can balance the peace, as opposed to someone who follows Bush and could drop dead any day now causing Palin to become president? If there is ever going to be a first US female president, at least make sure she's a good one. The McCain/Palin thing is a disaster, be happy it is being avoided. It's scary that McCain is even this close. I would have expected Obama to own this election months ago.

            • Would have liked to see 55 - 57, but it's all going just about as I expected.

                • Can we talk Senate for a minute?

As expected, McConnell, Wicker, Chambliss, and Johanns look safe. So there's not going to be a blazing Democratic supermajority.

Also as expected, Hagan, Shaheen, and Udall have won for the Dems.

Then there are various other races that were never really contested to begin with.

There are two, though, that are still in play.

It looks like Al Franken is going to take the Minnesota race in the only close race of the night. It's way too close to call right now, though. Oregon's polls haven't closed yet, but Jeff Merkley is likely to give the Democrats a pickup. However, this race is too close to call until some actual results are seen.

With the two races (in which the Democrats should be favored) out, the Dems will have 55 seats, Republicans 41, Independents (Sanders and Lieberman) 2. The best coalition the Dems can muster is 59, if they win both races and keep Lieberman in the fold.

                      • So 8 years ago, the leaving Clinton staff played a joke on the incomming Bush staff by removeing all the W's from all the Keyboards in the White House.

So... I think that the Bush staff should leave the place with little cotton balls all over the Oval office.

                              • I think they're waiting to call Nebraska because they could potentially split their electoral votes depending on which candidate wins in each individual congressional district.
