Cuba has free organic food for everybody, they use a very small amount of energy per capita and they use money to promote efficient use of resources. There's no need to get rid of money. The guy is too much of an extremist.

Why don't they buy ordinary food instead of buying organic vegetables? The whole point of organic vegetables is for upper middle class liberals to feel morally superior to other people. Yet, these are the same people who decry consumer brainwashing when it comes to kids buying the latest rap record or people buying fashionable clothes.
You go, Aggie. I work for a Health Food store and Organic is the biggest scam ever.

All that is happened is that the same companies that put all that crap in you are doing the same thing now, except it's all 'organic'. Read the labels. All the ingredients are still the same old crap, except now it's suppose to be 'green'.

All Organic buys you is a 50 percent margin for the grocer. I should know because I'm the one who has to do the inventory, and the crap they put into their products and the margins they sell everything at is obscene.

              BK,

I don't think you know what organic means. The suprising thing is that you aren't the first person to post in this thread who doesn't know what it means.

Probably true. The chicken in Cuba tastes amazingly good.

Organic? All it means is that the chemical contains carbon.

The organic scam just means that producers are free to label their products whatever they feel will increase the sales by as much as possible.

I see all kinds of preservatives in supposedly 'organic' products, that the label in itself is meaningless.

Why should I complain though? It's folks like you who are writing my cheques. I enjoy working for my boss who milks all the progressives hard. He's doing great, the folks who shop in the store feel better about themselves. It's a win win situation.

Just remember, if it says 'organic' on the label, you can raise the price and still get people to buy your crap.

So you are basically admitting your place of work commits fraud? Unless they have different requirements for labeling in Canada.

No, it's even worse. I get to participate in the fraud by advertising that the products are in fact organic when they are only so because of the label.

Organic produce is actually under less regulation then other types.

Just today I found more expired products. I'm hoping to get all that crap off the shelves, because if I don't, they will just get sold.

Did you say you work in a health food store?
Yes sir. I'm the one trying to fix their existing database program, and build them a website. In the process I get to root out lots of expired products, mislabeled things, you name it.

I also get to do the product writeups for each product they carry, which means I get to go through the advert material they get. Pretty much the only oversight that goes over the products and their ingredients comes from the owner of the store, and that's if he remembers what he ordered from years ago that is still in the store.

Most of the products labelled 'organic' are only so to charge a premium over the 'discount' brand. That's the only difference.

I know the in the US you have to go through requirements through the Department of Agriculture to be able to call yourself organic (of course some try to game the system).

The regulations are only as strong as they are enforceable. If you are a real supermarket, you get your costs jacked up with the inspectors and everything that you need to keep the place running. We don't have any of that, and we charge a much higher premium since the folks we are selling to are riding the organic train.

It's like selling stuff to a cult. You can't lose.

Anyways, thanks for helping me earn a paycheque Imran. I never have thought i'd be thanking the Green party for my living.

I'm not sure I'm helping you earn any... the places I buy organics would probably go out of business if it was revealed it wasn't what it was labeled (ie, "Whole Foods", and a very large Farmer's Market).
