  • You might as well drop it. Commies are commies; and democratic nations that give the people the opportunity to choose their destiny will never understand each other.

That would have required the Georgians to have basically reconquered S.O., which they weren't able to do. Face it, they ****ed up.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

      • While it doesn't justify Ruskies' response, Georgia did **** up big time. The war has also been a damnation to US' policy of using NATO as a tool for spreading Western values and strengthening democracy. It's a military alliance dammit, so don't offer it to countries that can't be defended.
I'm quite curious on how much further Putin's ilk is going to continue on this path. It's easy to laugh at Europe's disunity and it's rather meek response to the war, but anyone with a brain realises an economy worth $16 trillion, with 500 million people, is a sleeping giant. Do the Ruskies really want to push things to point they risk actually waking it up?

Would it? Could Geogians who live(d) in S.O. have driven a truck full of hay bales (and C4) through the tunnel?

Oh, come on. How much do you pay for the base? $3K a year? As far as I know the Cuban government doesn't recognise the treaty.
We also have a treaty with Georgia about having our peacekeepers there. Saak might not like it, but it's there.

WRT the Monroe doctrine. It was put into place to dispell European spheres of influence. Specifically to end Europes policy of using military force to collect money. Sounds like we need a Monroe Doctrine for The Caucasus to keep the Russian sorry azzes under control to me.

And after that you regularly dropped socialist leaders of Latin America into the Atlantic from a plane.

This is just hilarious. So Georgia's choices were to let rebels indiscriminately shell Georgian villages or to try and restore order on their own territory? Yeah right.
No, its choices were to maintain the status quo or to negotiate the terms of independence of SO and Abkhazia. The chose the third way, which was hella stupid: to try and reconquer the breakaway republic.

... and you never showed any willingness to discuss return of refugees, which would definitely tip the scales in any plebiscite in Abkhazia and perhaps influence the S.Ossetian one. How very convenient.

Oh really? So that were South Ossetians who launched a full-scale military offensive and bombed Georgian capital with their Grads and tanks?

Yes, and granting ethnic Russians living in Latvia Latvian citizenship would also tip the scales in any plebiscite there.

I'm pretty sure the Russians had checkpoints in front of the tunnel. Also if the Georgians had done so it would have been pretty much a signed confession that they had planned the whole affair well in advance.

This would also count as a declaration of war against us, and Mishiko wouldn't keep his azz in his presidential chair.

                      • But using cluster bombs or GROD rockets? I think that pretty much rules out the possibility that the Georgians consulted with the American military establishment before planning the operation.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                              • So, you can't shut down the tunnel. How do the Georgians protect their people from the attacks of those Russian passport carrying S.O.ians if fighting back is completely off the table?
