    GePap? Elite?

    I do have to say that GePap does seem to be well educated, but then I would say that well over half of Poly has a good education.

    To be "elite" would you not have to be in a very small minority at the top of something?

    Perhaps he meant "elitist"...which is something completely different and a whole lot more accurate.

      Seems to fit the statements and the occupations. Not sure that would qualify you as "elite", but what do i know...I'm one of those ignorant Southerners.

          All of the houses in Calgary look the same. It's sprawly and ugly.

                    U of Chicago, not Columbia, and I am not thinking of a law degree at this moment.

                        I have actually been to Calgary. I was there last week.

                            U of C is a great school. I must say though that the occupations you have listed do seem to point toward a desire for Law.

                            I am interested to know. Is it the degree from Chicago that you feel puts you in the "elite"? Or is their something that perhaps you do not wish to reveal?

                            You have been around Poly long enough to know that if you make a statement about something that the very least people will want is an explanation. Prrof is always better, but at least an explanation...

                                Its a simple socio-economic statement on my part. I come from a well off family, both parents were professionals with graduate degrees, and I did get to go to a very fancy and prestigious academic institution and graduated with honors.

                                I have had enough experiences to know how fortunate and easy most of my life is (particularly my work in government and dealing with people who are generally trampled upon) and how I have had, continue to have, and will have, opportunities that most people, even in this country, don't have.

                                As I said before, I don't claim to be the best at anything, but I am most certainly not living the kind of life most people have to live. And that is true of many people here as well. Perhaps having this sort of class consciousness is declasse nowadays, but it doesn't make it any less true.

                                If you want to function on the "self-made man" definition of "elite," then so be it.
