Yes of course. Anyone who doesn't has to be pretty thick IMO - or stuck in Texas for the last week or so...

It's a simple concept.
Russia feels like it's manhood is in question after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
They see Georgia as in their personal 'sphere of influence'. Georgia has pissed off mighty Russia by seeking an alliance with the US in the NATO rather then cuddling up to Russia.
Russia gives the people of S. Ossetia Russian Passports so they can make the claim that S. Ossetia is primarily Russian.
Georgia responds by saying that the border is the border, and ought to remain as they are. Georgia responds by attacking the rebels in S. Ossetia.
Russia, thrilled that their trap works, sends in the tanks to defend the newly minted Russian citizens and rolls over Georgia.
We haven't seen anything like this since the Czechs.
i'm sorry, but you don't have a clue about what you're talking about
BONUS QUESTION: Do you care? Why/Why not?
all the stated objectives, official reasons of Russia's invasion have already been met. it's becoming increasingly clear that the actual primary objective is the replacement of saakashvili with a pro-russian puppet.
the timing of the invasion was very delicate -- for an observer who has been paying attention to the development of Russia for the past 5 years, it's now obvious that Putin is a very intelligent leader

So it's kind of ironic that he was, in your words, "a panslavist nationalist"...

I think we should let Russia claim their old colony of Finland too, since VJ doesn't seem at all concerned about the plight of his neighbours.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.
