It's pretty damn consequential... LEDs won't replace the common incandescent light bulb until we can figure out how to create an omnidirectional source, cheaply.

Obviously designs exist. It really isn't hard to do; I could get a bulb shaped thing and basically stick a bunch of LEDs to its surface... But since I can't buy LED sources for my lamps at a grocery store, I'd assume that they're relatively pricey."Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. Incandescents are cheaper per bulb, but when you factor in the life expectancy they're actually a little bit more expensive. CFLs last long enough that they'd be a better deal, even if electricity weren't an issue. I use CFLs, but I admit it took a while to get used to the different kind of light they emit.
I remember somewhere that fluorescent lights contain some pretty bad chemicals (mercury IIRC). Does anybody know how they compare in terms of toxicity with incandescents? Those only have tungsten filaments or something.
CFL's do contain mercury. When they finally do start to burn out, I'll just e-recycle them, like I already do with batteries, broken CD players and old computer components.

The guy simply doesn't have one worth the name. It consists of give oil companies more subsidies, give oil companies more leases, subsidize electric utilities which donated to his campaign but none who didn't.
I must say a long term plan to increase the domestic supply of oil is a great idea of McCain, and drilling everywere is an excellent plan. Oil prices are dropping as supply increases, and dropping much faster then the 3-4 percent that Obama said could be done. The reason? Speculators figure that with the supply increasing, the price is going to drop, so they are selling now when they think oil is high.
That's not a policy that's stupid politics. A real policy would include not just subsidies but also requirements that efficiency get pushed up especially CAFE standards.

Maybe you don't, but how about those people out there who aren't inflating the tires to the proper level? Do we want them to continue in their ignorance, instead of prosetylizing proper auto care and efficiency tips?Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.
