      • Is there anything in Obama's energy policy that makes sense? Anything even remotely targeted at the here and now or at least the next decade?

            • # Invest $150 Billion over 10 Years in Clean Energy: Obama will invest $150 billion over 10 years to advance the next generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure, accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids, promote development of commercial-scale renewable energy, invest in low-emissions coal plants, and begin the transition to a new digital electricity grid. A principal focus of this fund will be devoted to ensuring that technologies that are developed in the U.S. are rapidly commercialized in the U.S. and deployed around the globe.
              # Double Energy Research and Development Funding: Obama will double science and research funding for clean energy projects including those that make use of our biomass, solar and wind resources.

              • Yes, when the government spends money it must be good.

I'd like to see actions instead of his answer to every problem (throw money at it).

                  • Has there ever been a study done (independently) that would verify that increased production of solar panels or windmill farms would be an economical way to produce enough energy to satisfy whatever arbitrary line the government sets?

Instead of sloganeering, how about some science? In the last year alone, over $125 billion has already been invested in alternative energy products and the total might be as high as $7 trillion within the next 20 years.

What more will we really have to show for it?

1.) Clean energy has nothing to do with economic energy.

2.) Money is not the problem, there is already plenty there. Development takes time.

3.) Most of that was fluff garbage. Seriously, who isn't advocating "promote development of commercial-scale renewable energy?"

4.) Nothing about drilling or nukes, Obama fails

                      • Yeah, the big is the unwillingness to drill anywhere and not looking hard enough at nukes.

Granted they don''t help overnight, but potential presidents should be looking 10 years out.

All of his pandering just tells me that he's not willing to make any of the hard decisions that a president has to make. Heck when in congress, his voting records shows that he rarely made any decisions. NOT PRESENT.

to be fair, new drilling and building new nukes plants are next decade solutions as well.
The undeserving maintain power by promoting hysteria.

That's an operative word; Obama's offered nothing on the most clean and economically efficient energy that doesn't produce waste -- nuclear power.

Even if Obama did mention it, he probably wouldn't mention that nuclear power plants aren't being built not just due to moratoriums placed by state and local governments, but by the myriad of lawsuits that are filed by environmental groups against the nuclear power industry.

Worse yet, the environmental groups have standing in U.S. courts to sue on our behalf; no other lobby group has that power, and especially not consumer interest groups that would be supportive of building new plants.

But the hysteria isn't today as bad as it was 20-30 years ago; look at all the morons that bought into the idea that nuclear power was going to kill us all at Three Mile Island, The China Syndrome, or that all nuclear plants would explode like Chernobyl.

Uh... while I agree that nuclear power should be promoted... it most definitely does produce waste. Hence why we have to use Yucca Mountain.

                              • I should have said pollution; I know the nuclear power plants produce waste. It'd be less of a problem if Jimmah didn't ban the reprocessing of nuclear waste into fuel.
