  • **** off and die, ass-hole.
Piss off Che. Ozzy asked me for advice so I'm going to damn well give him some.

You might not agree with me, too bad.

I've known plenty of mixed-Catholic marriages to work. My grandparents, my parents (though they eventually split up after twenty years, but not because of religion).
Where did I say that mixed marriages do not work? It works if both parties have respect for the other's religion. IMO, Ozzy's gal doesn't have much respect for Catholicism, which is why I don't think it will work out for him.

Many of my teachers and friends. Oh, wait, me and my wife (thought to be fair, she's a recovering Catholic and we're both atheists now, but you know the Church, once Catholic, always a Catholic in their eyes).
Obviously that mixed relationship didn't work out because she ain't Catholic anymore. That's not a working 'mixed' relationship because your wife doesn't practice.

That, btw is the usual outcome. One partner refuses to have consideration for the other, and the other decides to comply because they love the other person and doesn't want to lose them.

So how about not dispensing relationship advice when you've got no real experience in them.
Ozzy asked me, so piss off Che, and stop trolling.

    • Yea, I really don't think religion is going to come between us.
You are being considerate, but I don't believe she likes Catholicism all that much. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the impression you leave me.

I'm sure you wouldn't bust up with her over it, but I think she would be the one to bust up with you because of your Catholicism.

Honestly, the fact that I was able to find someone in DC who actually attends church every week is novel itself. So no, I'm not breaking it off.
Is it that bad? As bad as it was in Vancouver I was able to find Catholics and protestants who attended every week. I know it was difficult, but there were very good people out there.

If the only reason you are with her is because she goes to church every sunday, there are plenty of people like that, even in DC.

I'm open to being convinced, but I don't see much reason to believe the host & wine are literally the body & blood of Christ. They represent him, and as he said at the last supper, we take communion to remember him.
They don't just represent him, they are him. Question, taking your best guess, when did that idea emerge?

But a gesture to remember him and his sacrifice is different than literally eating God. Which doesn't seem to follow from the text nor make much sense.
I think it's pretty clear. I'm going to take this to pm though, unless you explicitly prefer an answer here on the forum.

      • I don't remember expulsion for misdemenors on campus... otherwise plenty of people I knew who were busted for things like urinating in public would have kicked out in droves.
What about assault? Assault is a misdemenor and I certainly know of folks who have been expelled for assault.

        • It is drilled into you before your first Communion ceremony, and unless you were blind you sure as hell saw that other young children (and unconfirmed adults) do not go to recieve the eucharist but stay in the seats.

          You are a liar.

Che beat me to it, but I've been to Roman Catholic masses where it was the same: children and some unconfirmed adults go up to receive a blessing instead of bread and wine. Hell, even Ben said as much earlier.

            It seems neither does he.

They aren't expelled for being convicted of a crime, but violating university policy by using violence against another university student on campus. The person wouldn't even have to be charged to be punished by expulsion for that.

If Cook is a Catholic then he is in mortal sin right now for holding the wafer hostage.
I know this is correct from the standpoint of the religion, but step back and think about this for a minute, people. Holding a WAFER hostage.

I know, Ben, I know. It's the body of Christ, right? Body-snatching! Which is apparently bad, but eating the body is good.

                  • Apparently the maker of the universe and the mover of all that is, was, and shall ever be, has been taken hostage and is helpless to defend itself without the intervention of teh Catholics. Doesn't strike me as all that powerful.

Then it's irrelevant whether it's a misdemeanor or a felony. You should have asked is this conduct contrary to university policy?

I like that in forcing you to defend your ridiculous views, now you not only believe the boy should be expelled, but also arrested.

I also do not believe that any laws about public disruption extend to removing a wafer from a church. I've read about people convicted for disrupting masses, and generally speaking they tend to involve LOUD protests and vandalising the church itself. Not removing a single wafer. Again, you're offended, but that doesn't mean that the university administration should listen to you and expel every student who misbehaves at one point or another.

Ok, I could ask that... at my university disruption of a group's religious meeting may get you in trouble, but not expelled. And that'd be for talking loudly and actually being disruptive.

I said that first thing yesterday. Read up

This one involved the body of Christ, and yes, there have been incidents previously, where someone has disrupted the mass by taking the host.

Again, you're offended, but that doesn't mean that the university administration should listen to you and expel every student who misbehaves at one point or another.
No, but employees of the universities, according to their own code are to be respectful of other people's religious beliefs. Just because you don't agree with Catholicism, doesn't mean they should be treated any differently then anyone else.

You would think this is basic common sense. Let parishioners worship in peace and do not disrupt their services.
