The same could be said about the Germans. Because everybody knows Neanderthals were really killed off by competition from the inhabitants of Golgafrinchan Ark Fleet Ship B, as per Douglas Adams.

I also remember hearing about 5 years ago that one of the men who traced his ancestry to Confucius had failed the Taipei University entrance exam in Taiwan. Although given the 1.5 million descendants around the world, this is actually a fairly likely occurrence, it still made me smile.
Maybe the rumours I heard that the birth of every Chinese is recorded in a book in their ancestral village are also true?

Well I dunno about each village having a birth book. But each family certainly used to have a 家谱 "jia pu" record of births. Usually this only included boys, but some of these go back dozens of generations.

In the Cultural Revolution, the Communist Party destroyed many such records, so much of that information is lost. However, many of the Chinese that fled the mainland during this time were able to preserve the records to some degree.

Apparently my father's family had detailed records but those were lost. We have a barebones family tree listing only the firstborn male descendants for 14 generations.

It's pretty cool. My brother would be the straight line patrilineal firstborn for 14 generations, according to that. He is somewhat indifferent to this.
