Yes, but we had other interests too, like "kill the Nazis" and "kill the immigrants" (which was sometimes mixed with "kill the commies"). Once the Nazis were gone (dunno where the immigrant-hatred went, I was a sperm at the time), we had only commies to beat up on. Oh, and black people, but that Supreme Court got on our case about it soon after we got rid of the Nazis. Now we've moved on to "kill the Ay-rabs," but rest assured that we'll be coming for you again just as soon as you grow sufficiently in numbers and sophistication to be a halfway-plausible threat. Or if we run out of Ay-rabs.
You always did like to make us out to be a bigger threat than we ever were anyway. You'll just do what you always have and spread fear and lies.

It suddenly occurs to me how much fun it would be to write a book about the U.S. in the 20th Century -- "The American Century" -- beginning with the glory of Teddy Roosevelt and ending with the dark spectre of George W. Bush.
Teddy has so much to do with Dubya though.

Interesting. I've always been curious. How do they cover US history in other countries?
My profs were American too. Both were from the south, one was from North Carolina, and the other was from Georgia.
The classes I thought were well done. We did one from the civil war to the end of the second world war, but he focussed on certain presidents, like TR, Wilson and FDR, not so much on Coolidge or Hoover.
He was generally balanced, we had some really interesting classes on Carnegie, and the Rockefellers, the Astors, etc.
The second class was after the second world war to the fall of the wall, and that was well done too.
The textbooks we used were homegrown, the profs made them and the reading list up rather then getting something published up here. The University actually made them censor out William Buckley which both my profs made a big deal.
AFAIK, I don't recall if both profs are still there. They've pretty much gutted the departments there. My profs were very well respected, but I can't see them hanging around in a department that doesn't really want them anymore.
Edit: By balanced I meant they left out the "blame America first gang", but they focussed on the amazing accomplishments of democratic presidents.

At the end of 2000 he wasn't a dark specter. Just a controversy as to whether he was elected or not.
No one knew how bad he was gonna be.
I would start it differently.
I'd start it with the assassination of the president by anachists, and end it with 9-11.
The American Century.

That's so like you. Start it with a violent act against an american president and end it with a violent act against america. What would you put between them?

I'd sprinkle it with a generous dose of the Kennedy Assassination, the death of Dr. King, the death of RFK Jr, and the shooting of Reagan.
All icons of American society cut down in their prime by radicals.

Heresson, until that book arrives, you should read Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism to fall back on. Your professor will be impressed by your knowledge of total horse**** with a Hitler smiley on the cover.
