  • American History - Teh Horror

I am having a big exam of XX century's history.
I have to read at least one more book. It was written by proffesor who I will have my exam with. It's about american history. It's big and over 750 pages long.
I've read 300 pages, and the exam is 3 days ahead of me. I know everything about progressivists, mr T. Roosevelt, mr Taft and mr Wilson, and about Great Crisis too, though all those agencies, AAA, CCC, NRI or whatever, it's just too much. My knowledge about America shifted, but oh, it's horrible. 450 more pages to go... Teh problem is that I ordered this book 10 days ago, and still it haven't come. Somehow it was not bought by university library. It is admissible in historical library, but at weekends it's open for only 5-6 hours, and monday it's completely closed, because just this monday they have to make "scontrum" or whatever.
I wanted to buy it again, just to read it, but it is not available anywhere.

Therefore, I want You to tell me what I have to know about post-ww2 american history. Teach meh!

sounds like a basic intro to American History 1900-to present?

The next big thing to learn is probably the Truman Doctrine, followed by the explosion of consumerism in the 50s, Civil Rights movement of the 50s/60s, maybe some Vietnam, followed by Reagan, and usually the 90s and 2000s are just a small blip, represented by post-Cold War and has 9/11 really changed anything?

Atleast, thats what my American History classes were like. You can wiki-search to learn the about any of those topics

The black people thought they were going to finally be free, but the white people had other ideas.

      Also, Rock n' Roll.

            Yeah, as said,

Vietnam time, Nixon's resignation. (Don't know what to say about the Bra Burning era, the late 60's... were different... made changes.)

            Cold War, Cuban Missle Crisis.

New World Order, maybe. [Edit: Three Mile Island]

Interesting. I've always been curious. How do they cover US history in other countries?

Oh, don't forget Nixon's entente with China, and raprochement. But depends how political your prof is. Most of mine were more focused on civil and womens rights.

My American History profs were American. Not sure how it compares, as I never studied in the states, but I think we got a pretty good, unbiased view of it.

What, most American highschools don't leave that out? I don't know how old you are, but my generation spent at least half of their history classes learning about the long list of people victimized by this country in one way or another. That's been pretty much the standard since the 90's if not earlier.
                        Unbelievable!

Don't forget the Marshal Plan to finance the rebuilding of Western Europe. It was conceived of by Pres. Truman but he had General of the Armies George Marshal take credit for it because, at that time, Gen. Marshal was well respected by President Truman was not. Attaching Marshall's name to the project made it easy to "sell" to Congress.

Yes, the more victims the more glorious and Godly the nation.
