See? The Republicans have no issue. So they resort to lies, distortions and mudslinging.

How does this work? Since McCain's position on Iraq is looking better he looks worse on the issue?
More precisely, (a) the better the war goes, the less people care about it, and (b) the better the war goes, the more reasonable it seems to being withdrawing from Iraq.

        That's.... interesting logic.

Isn't Iraq Obama's main issue too? So the better Iraq goes, the more he looks like an idiot for saying we need to withdraw yesterday (or never get in in the first place).

He hasn't called for an immedicate withdrawal. His catch phrase is that "We need to be as careful getting out as we were careless going in."

He was earlier in the race. Talking about getting out as soon as possible, X amount out within a certain amount of time.

He still is. A brigade or two a month, IIRC. But he always adds, any withdraw must be flexible and change with changing conditions.

Does Obama even know what a brigade is?

In any case, the side he is married to is "out now no matter what" whether he likes it or not. He can't escape it.

actually now that the primary is over (which for dems is usually a contest of how left can we lean) and we're going into the general election (which for dems means do a 180 and head back to the middle) I'd expect Obama to modify his original 'out now now matter what' into something more moderate.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Here's an interesting article. The basic point is that some analysts feel there is about a 50-50 chance that Obama could win the popular vote and lose the election.

Imran, you still gonna vote McCain? Just curious.

Well one recent issue they have raised that will resonate well with many is to increase domestic oil production. Environmentalists don't like it but they aren't voting republican anyways. But alot of swing voters might not find it a bad idea to drill in the artic or 200 miles offshore, mine oil shale or add refineries when gas is $4-$5/gal.

I'm not sure how true it is but it is being said that currently the US uses 21mm barrels/day but only produces 9mm. Supposedly, there is enough domestic oil to turn the US into a net exporter of oil. Add to that that 73% of Americans currently support increased drilling.

I'm not saying all of the above is true, but it is gonna be tough for the Dems to consistantly argue against it.

Why won't McCain do well? He's been vindicated on Iraq.

I thought this election was supposed to be about the war, and now it's about high gas prices?

True. Obama has tried to point out that, even if we granted drilling rights now, it'd be ten years before the oil would start being pumped.

But it's no good making an intellectual argument in an emotion-charged issue.

He should be arguing that the sudden upsurge is due to the behind-the-scenes financial manipulations in the Dark Markets such as the International Commodity Exchange (ICE).
