People recieve a pay check for investigating welfare fraud. You are talking out of your ass.
Where does that correct my point that there is no incentive for the folks that are responsible for the administration of the dole to rein in welfare spending? Yes they pay for investigators, but those are separate from the people who cut the cheque.

The same is not true of private charities.

They don't need to reduce welfare spending. That's just your political opinion. That has nothing to do with the issue of fraud. They need to increase the amount that recipients get, because it currently isn't enough.

Welfare fraud is pissing money away that comes from everybody else.

As for increasing welfare, the problem is if you reward behaviour you will see more of it. Want to raise the dependency ratio, keep raising welfare. You have to make it attractive for people to go back to work.

It's not. I really have no idea what you are talking about at this point.

Nothing attracts people to work like high wages. You can't starve people off of welfare. You defeat your own purpose. But I get the idea that you want to starve people into having to beg you for money.

Oh for sure, but welfare fraud is a fact of life and is a problem inherently associated with the program.
I thought Agathon made the point rather well. One can easily say that tax fraud is a fact of life and is a problem inherently associated with the program.

              Both are quite true.

Yes, it is. Taxpayers funded it in the first place.

How much do you make a year Kid? I guarantee that you make more then I do.

Stop preaching to me about the 'plight of the worker', it just falls on deaf ears to hear rich people brag about how 'connected' they are to the real workers.

You don't know anything about me, and I'm not going to be arsed into telling you. That said, I'm sure that whatever income I state you will claim you make less. How much do you make?

Why would I have to be poor anyway?! I am poor, but why is it important to you that I be poor to speak up for poor people. Haven't you ever heard of empathy, or do you only think about yourself?

I am surprised no one has brought up the fact of charity fraud - fake charities, emblezzlement, so forth.

Each of you PM me your salaries for comparison, and I will lie about the result so that my side wins the argument.

                      • If we are going by lifetime income, which I suggest, I've got Ben beat hands down. I'm sure of that. Of course, I'm 39 now, and he's much younger I think. Probably a student, which is why he wants to compare current year incomes.

                            • Because you just admitted that, by either measure, you make more than he does. That was the point. There are other points in this argument, but that was one of them.

No. To win you have to make less, because Ben is claiming to be poorer than me.
