Herc - That is a false choice. Why does it have to be one or the other? I certainly can't choose a system that excludes millions in theory whereas a system that excludes in practice is not to be admired either.

You can train a teacher much quicker and cheaper than a GP (much less a specialist). Classrooms are cheaper than hospitals, etc.

I'm not saying this is a reason not to reform our system but to barge ahead blindly thinking this is not an issue would be naive imho.

It would be better if everyone had a better level of assured care that wouldn't bankrupt them in unfortunate circumstances, but it isn't the boogyman that many have been 'educated' to believe.

In fact, the now more commonly cited factoid is that only 2 other countries on Earth prohibit private healthcare on a level or greater than Canada does. Cuba and North Korea. Good company there.

Nobody has to blindly charge anywhere. In fact, if we were willing to open our eyes and go beyond 'Yankee bad' there could be a lot of benefits for all Canadians.

Private healthcare in New Zealand used to be pretty small. It was a good deal for some people (my parents had additional insurance and they were working class). But it only worked for everyone as long as the state system picked up most of the slack. Private health insurance was for people who didn't want to wait as long for treatment.

But when our moron right wing government started making cuts to the public system, it ****ed it up for everyone. Premiums soared and neither the state system nor the private system was a good deal for anyone.

Add to that the fact that anyone who is trying to introduce private healthcare to Canada is inevitably an ******* who's trying to undermine the state system, and it's no wonder Canadians are suspicious.

I respect that McCain "did ****" before he became a politician. I really do. That doesn't make him the better candidate for President, though.

If you are going to pander to vets with a story to try and improve your cred with them by telling an important family story, wouldn't you at least try and get the facts right. This would seem to be especially true in light of the snipergate fiasco of the Hillary camp. The sad part is that this isn't even the first time he's claimed an uncle in the Soviet army.
