I could look for the thread but I can't be bothered. In short a middle age white guy with appropriate wife and young children were taken down at gunpoint b/c the guards thought he was a wanted terrorist. Guards finally admit (to themselves) they are wrong and send him on his way. Oh, and I think they gave him a phamplet outlining border guard policy (opposite to what had just happened of course) for his reading pleasure.

Someone comes in and flies a plane into the WTC, I think they are going to be more careful with border security.
I think we Canadians should be helping them out not complaining. I mean honestly, I can see an American being annoyed, but we have no grounds to complain on how they treat us when we try to enter their country. You do what they tell you and you respect the job they are trying to do. There is no right to enter other countries, unless you are willing to abide by the terms of entry.
Frankly if you don't like the scrutiny, it's no loss to the US if you choose not to go there.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

"scrutiny" = guns pointed
Being a middle age white guy, I'll pass.
Btw, that last line is nice. "no loss" nope, none at all. I know you are not an american so I will leave that for them to comment on. I always thought the US appreciated tourism dollars."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

It's up to us to abide by whatever rules the Americans set up whether we agree with them or not. Their house, their rules.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

I've been to the US many times in the past DD so it's not like I had "lofty expectations" or had to "imagine" anything. You didn't hear me complaining about the old subways did you?"I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

This is the last I have to say on the subject.
The USA was for all intent and purpose, free come and go. You see what that got us. If we shore up defenses against just mideastern, is that better? There is no doubt the defenses had to be shored up, and I think it speaks more for us that it's not just agains middle ast people. It's not just middle eastern people having to take off their ****ing shoes at airport security. It's not just Canadian. It's not just anyone. It's everyone.

Sloww - You and Ben are missing the same point. I fully expect more "scrutiny" at the border these days. Perhaps even a "hassle" depending on what that entails, but when they (border guards) take a father down at gunpoint in front of his young children b/c they have ****ed up "intelligence" don't you think the least they could do would be to say sorry and perhaps explain to the children why they did what they did (ie something like "We made a mistake Daddy isn't a badguy"). Common decency used to be a trait I admired in Americans.
Instead they were given a propaganda flyer telling them how the guards are to behave in a "courteous" and "respectful" way and sent on their way to share their experience with other Canadians."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow
