Racist isn't not liking "A" black or white or green.
Liking someone strictly because they are a color is as bad as not liking any for the same reason.
It's forgetting that people are people, and nothing else matters, in the whole.

Well, he's speaking to his congregation, so yes it would help if you were actually a member of his church. At the very least, to be fair, you should listen to the whole sermon, or try to make a real effort to see if he is actually a racist.

I have to agree with Kid here. I don't like what Wright said, and he's clearly racist himself, but it's not something I think is anything close to as bad as it's been made out to be - and frankly he has some pretty substantial reasons for feeling that way. He preaches to a parish made up of people who to a large extent ARE significantly disadvantaged by racial inequality - whether by past discrimination that have led to current ones, or current discrimination. He, and they, have a reason for feeling the sort of anger they do, and it can be very hard to differentiate between people who are doing the discriminating, and other people who have gained advantage from it, and other people who haven't gained advantage from it - and to see the difference.

It's certainly bad for society, and something that shouldn't happen - but I think it is something that we who are not of this culture should make more of an effort to understand. I would hope that Reverend Wright would make an effort to channel the rage into positive social change - and maybe he does, as I doubt anyone here has enough understanding of what he does to say otherwise - and then, ultimately, to not fuel further rage, but instead fuel the continuity of positive change.

As a racist personally? The same as any other racist, not very positively. Because he knows someone that has displayed ignorance, while not suffering the same ignorance himself? None.

Let me be more clear and say that the Reverend Wright probably believes in income distribution, more programs for the disadvantaged and higher taxes on the wealthy. I'm almost sure that's the extent of his "racism." Unless anyone can show otherwise they are being ridiculous.

I've listened to one of his sermons and have read the text of another, and I have come to the conclusion that imho he is a racist, or at least uses terms I associate with racial intolerance.

Unfortunately, while I will be in Chicago next week, I will not be able to attend a sermon at his former church.

I disagree with this entitlement to racism meme. My uncle working as a truck driver was mugged and beaten within an inch of his life at the apparent hand of two black men. To this day he refers to black people in the most deragotory terms. Is he entitled to that opinion, hell no. In fact anytime the subject comes up I tell him that I there is no place that I want to hear such drivel. Moreso the case of Wright a preacher of God who knows full well the Christ like actions of forgiving and forgetting.

It appears to me that some Obama supporters like to blame Hillary for "tearing down the party" when really Obama is losing support because the media is finally paying attention to things like Rezko and Wright, and Obama has to try to answer those concerns. If Obama loses in the general, it won't be because Hillary didn't give up when the Obama supporters wanted it to, it'll be because of Obama scandels and/or being unable to match up with McCain toe-to-toe.

This post seems contradictory, so I don't really understand. But Reverend Wright seems more knowledgable than most people. It's a fact that cruise ships have mostly white people on them, and those people throw away a hell of a lot of food, while a lot of black people don't have enough food. If you're a black person who doesn't think that's important than I think then that you are the ignorant one.

I am not saying that he/they are entitled to it; but that those not in the group should attempt to understand the underpinnings. I absolutely say that he should take the feelings that are already present and channel them into positive actions, and work to reduce the tension created by these feelings; but I think simply saying that "it's wrong, he's bad" is a mistake, and lumping him in the same class as people who are racist due to feeling superior to others is flat out wrong.
