  • Who educated you?

This is an offshoot of the home schooling debate.

So, did our Poly posters go to a state run school, a privately run religious school, privately run secular school, or taught at home?

          Good question.

I was assigned to a public school here when I was quite young, there is one in the city specialises in working with deaf and hard of hearing kids. It was a public school that had a special program available which set it apart from the others.

I got transferred from that to a normal elementary school, after I was able to prove that I was able to function in them. I had a speech therapist, that I had to see throughout the week, and I would be excused from class for my therapy lessons.

I went to a public high school, and was offered the chance to do the IB program in grade 10. I waited a year to get myself ready for it, and then went into the full program in grade 11 and I gradded with my diploma.

So I've always been in the public system, but for the most part have had a 'supplementary curriculum', as I needed extra help on some things. IB was so much better then the regular courses.

Private religious school for 3rd grade, and part of 1st grade, and kindergarten.
Home school for rest of 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 4th grade.
Public school for 5-6 grade, 8-12th grade (skipped 7th, mostly because of homeschooling 4th, I learned very little in 5-6th, as I had already learned in it 4th).

Private religious (not my denomination) for undergrad. Public university for graduate school.

                  Public school... badly!

Pretty sure, I would have done much better during high school in a private school.

A state run school. Admittedly, a good one, but a state run school nontheless...

It was state schools which taught me to read and write, then impeded my learning for the next 10 years.

My parents taught me to read before kindergarten, bought a set of encyclopedias, and we didn't have TV (until I was 10)... I was in public schools, but essentially self-taught in most subjects.

One of the few phenomenally well-run public school systems in the country (and the #1 high school, public or private, in the country), plus a lot from my parents on the side.
