I don't know if you're talking to me or Wezil, but I don't necessarily disagree with DeCSS (it's debatably legal even here in the US) but rather with keeping it ripped beyond the duration of the rental contract; that seems illegal.

I'm clearly referring to bitrate. And I know all about your castrated-bandwidth-cap network."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

I would think that if you have more than the number of movies you're permitted to rent at one time on your computer, it would not be legal But who knows in canada, the US is rather stricter than most (or all...)<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Snoopy - AIUI our digital copyright laws are much looser but the current gov would like to change that."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

If that's true, how come Netflix members can stream unlimited amounts of movies?
They explicitly state that you may not copy the DVD ... I suppose you could argue you're not 'copying' the DVD, but I think the argument would not go very far
Edit: Netflix did indeed change their plan to unlimited streaming; however, it undoubtedly is '1 stream per account' and lower quality, and I would presume they are able to do so because they negotiated that cost with the folks in the movie selling business... it's certainly not the same as keeping a movie in ripped format.<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

The rest of the machine matches the disc drive. You would shudder to see it I'm sure.
Yes, I could always upgrade my computer but if an upgraded computer was something I wanted I would have done so already. I am a very low tech person."I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

They can't, for one; they can stream up to the number of hours times the amount they pay for their plan (so a $15 plan = 15 hrs movies), last I checked.

Obviously. 100Mbit of bandwidth lets you stream (roughly) 100Mbit video, or at least download high-bitrate video quickly.
And I know all about your castrated-bandwidth-cap network.

Netflix will begin offering unlimited online movie streaming from a library of over 6000 movies to customers on their $16.99 plan starting Monday.
The move is said to be in response to the expected announcement by Apple CEO Steve Jobs at the Macworld Expo Tuesday that iTunes will offer movie rentals from most major studios. The expected price of the iTunes rented movies is $3.99 each, putting Netflix is a competitive position for high value regular movie watchers.
Netflix has previously offered limited movie streaming to its 7 million + customers, but capped the streaming access at 17 hours a month."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
