Obviously. 100Mbit of bandwidth lets you stream (roughly) 100Mbit video, or at least download high-bitrate video quickly.
Where the hell would you acquire 100 Mbit/sec video online?

The **** you get online -- even the fully 1080p stuff -- is almost always bitrate-castrated.

I would love to see this enforced in Canada's court of laws -- the same courts that have ruled it legal to upload ripped DVDs to others from a computer.

Yes, I DanS'ed you. I am very intrigued by this actually, as I'm much more likely to watch movies if I can stream them (even if lowish quality, I haven't joined the HD revolution yet as I'm not that big of a TV/movie watcher).

(If we get the $600 checks, I may very well buy a $700-800 TV though just to do my part in the economic revival... mmm ...)

Other people on the local network who have ripped that material from disc (and/or DLed it, though I'm not sure where they got it).

Well, as I said who knows about Canada. It certainly seems to me to be illegal, and moreover against the spirit of copyright law; you can argue with the latter all you want, and Canada can choose to ignore digital media all it wants (yay virtually nonexistent film industry) but it doesn't make it any more legal in a theoretical sense, nor right

So given your 10GB cap and the 50GB size of most Bluray media, you could watch 1 Bluray movie every 5 days if you didn't do anything else on your network.

              Brilliant solution.

Local network doesn't count towards the cap. Neither does I2 (which XBLM apparently gets routed over).

I think you grossly underestimate how much film and TV is produced in Canada. Many American TV shows and movies are made in Canada.

In a theoretical sense, in Canada, digital media has virtually no laws to protect it. So this discussion of legal vs illegal is nonsense.

And how many of your network peers have a good selection of 50GB Bluray rips?

Three who are always on, and another couple who are on intermittently.

And even relatively low-bitrate HD h264 looks pretty good, for the other stuff.

I seriously doubt they have more than a few Bluray movies at their original bitrates on a fileshare. If they do, they're very, very stupid.

This is the most bizarre statement I've seen in quite some time.

No worries about the format of hardware as long as you keep it all on a hard drive. Just about every HD video out there is now available free of charge on the net anyway. Piracy.
