  • Why are you not a Christian

I have been wondering what the general response would be to this for a while.

Responses like "It is all BS" aren't all that useful, please say why it is BS, if you think so.

This is not suppose to be a debate thread, I will try my best not to debate with the nonChristians, and I would ask other Christians not to debate with them either (even if you know they are wrong). Rather it is suppose to be an informational thread. A discussion thread might come later

I think I know why some of you aren't Christians, but I am interested in why others of you aren't... and I am interested in knowing if I am wrong about those who I have hypothesis on.

The clearer, the better, of course. While we shouldn't debate you, presenting a reason why you aren't a Christian that was addressed 1000 years ago is a bit ignorant.

      Cuz there is no god.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

I am a Christian, though some other denominations don't want to grant me the privilege of being one.

I was raised a christian, but during my adolescence to many inconsistancies started to show up in the Holy Bible. At some point the dam bursted, and I started to think for myself.

As soon as I started living on myself, I left christianity for good.

The mystical part of Christianity is as true as Greek myths to me, and though the ethical part is compatible with my ethics, it's not enough to call myself a Christian.

Because there is no evidence and it is all just conjecture from an ancient book. And as time has gone along, the less sure of itself it has become - heliocentrism, evolution, etc...it just continues to recede into the last corners of doubt.

                        I'm Christian so I guess I can't say why I'm not. Because I am.

                          - It's nonsensical
                          - The beliefs change over time
                          - The beliefs are fundamentally exclusionary and mean-spirited
                          - It's a classic case of cult by rule of fear of the unknown
                          - It's time-consuming
                          - It's boring
                          - It lends itself a bit too well to Groupthink

I have too much doubt to maintain any faith. My instincts and reason tell me the world looks more like a godless world than one presided over by an intelligent creator so how can I establish a personal relationship to an apparently non existent God, much less identify which one of the described relationships is the one that God actually wants?

One of the nice things about Buddhism is you get personal proof that there is no God.
