Face it Asher, you're not going to get me to agree that the Pope, Pat Robertson, Focus on Family, or Fred Phelps speak on my behalf.
I don't care if you agree or not. The simple fact is -- and this is statistically proven -- religiosity in the West is the #1 reason people oppose gay marriage.

    End of story.

    • Religiosity is the number one excuse people in the West give for opposing gay marriage.

      • Asher,

It just seems that Christianity makes people anti gay marriage, because all the stupid rednecks are Christian.

"Religiosity is the number one excuse people in the West give for opposing gay marriage."

        • Statistically, that is not true. It's not just the reason, it's also a much stronger correlation of people who identify as being religious being against gay marriage, not necessarily as their excuse.

The facts are there, whether you want to see the truth or not is up to you guys.

Jeez, didn't you have to take stats in college for your "technical" job.

            • Yes, plenty.

What's the issue that you see?

Both of the following are statistically true:

              1) The #1 excuse for not supporting gay marriage is religion
              2) Given the dichotomy of religious vs non-religious, religious people are more likely to be against gay marriage in the Western world.

That would be fun if it weren't for other confounding factors:
                  1) The fact that religious texts themselves (and in most cases, the religious leaders) oppose it
                  2) The fact that people also give the reason of religion as the #1 reason to oppose it

Correlation is not causation, but when every single indicator points to religion as a force hindering gays from getting equal rights, it's time to face the truth.

That neither of those things means that people are against gay marriage because they are religious. A certain type of person tends to be both Christian and anti gay. Do you agree? If so then your statistics mean nothing.

Of course, appearantly you don't understand religion very well. You always use your religion as an excuse/reason for everything.

They tell it like it is, Kid.

                        1) Religious leaders oppose gay marriage
                        2) Religious text oppose gay marriage
                        3) Statistically, people who identify as religious tend to oppose gay marriage
                        4) Statistically, people who oppose gay marriage give religion as their #1 reason to oppose it

So, given 4 very convincing pointers here, what do you counter that with? The fact that there are some religious people who do support gay marriage?

So you are maintaining that people who hate gays convert to become Christian because of this?

                          Yeah, of course.

Where would I get the crazy idea that religion discourages gays from getting married? I should be locked up for such craziness.

It plays a significant part. If you are more tolerant you tend to not become Christian, or you choose a more tolerant church. But of course the tolerant churches tend to be the minority.

I can't believe you contest the concept of Christianity tending to make followers against gay marriage, and you counter it by saying people who are anti-gay become Christian.
