There are several programs that do this... I think FRAPS does, for example.

I remember my first game of Civ 1. Having been a Colonization addict, I decided to try out it's parent.

Well, I started as Russians, and had two cities up and running and my settlers was busy irrigating squares. (this was before I had learnt about the REX phase at the beginning) Suddenly, a ship full of barbarians landed and proceeded to wipe me out.

The next Civ game I played was Civ2 as you could turn off barbarians. Even with Civ4, I have barbs disabled. Stranglely though, I always played SMAC at max aliens.

That Deceased Crab guy is really a terrible player. He got offered The Wheel and took Ceremonial Burial instead

Did anyone watch the other videos? Did he manage to beat the Greeks?

he killed the greeks and then spent 20 minutes searching for other civs with a trireme

It would be great to do a demogame like that, instead of a turnchat have the videos.

And then you wouldn't have to release the saves.

Ahh, Civ1... I never managed to win civII or higher in BC, but one game (as the Russians) I conquered the world in 580 BC. It would have been sooner, but it took awhile to find where the English had respawned. I had 23 cities, on either King or Emperor.

Civ1 strategy for earliest possible conquest win:

                    1. Get the Wheel
                    2. Build cities and keep them at size 2 by having them work 2 forests (that's 4 food and 5 shields total per city)
                    3. Build only Chariots (and triremes to move them around)
                    4. Win

In Civ 2 you just replace Chariots with Crusaders.

There is a catch with each civ color respawning once. You need to kill the number two civ also.

I remember the high point of my Civ1 career when I was playing the Americans (except I'd renamed them the Californians.) on the world map. I reached the modern era controlling the Americas, the Russians had taken over the rest of the world and were quite a bit stronger. Luckily for me, I managed to build the Manhattan(Anaheim) Project. A few nukes later, I'd sacked Moscow and the Zulus rose up against their former Imperial masters. At that point, I had two enemies my size and loads of nukes.

I think that was the first and last game where I used nukes to bomb half the world and take over the rubble.

edit: That was on Emperor (or Deity? Whatever the hardest was in Civ1).

I remember my first game, started as the romans, and a few turns into the game a greek chariot showed up and my civ was destroyed. I've gotten better since.

My first game was on an island as the Americans, I believe. I'd built my first city, then sent warriors about exploring, then fortified them and expected them to eventually turn into cities.

Eventually learning the superior method to that end, my next speedbump came in the form of not knowing how to build irrigation (or what it represented). Exploring distant lands with frigates, I wondered why in the heck the other Civilization's beautiful cities were expanding so wonderfully with what was assumed to be suburban surroundings outlined in blue linear forms x)
