Vast global economic repercussions by default. But if you want to discus resources… well Europe
would probably be ok, but the rest of the world may have some problems. Who is the largest grain importer anyway?

I imagine Canada would in such a climate quickly invest into developing some agriculture beyond their southern border, since it would become very profitable.

PS: Don’t forget that all of the US’s domesticated animals are gone as well.

With the US, there is no chance of that either.

I think Brazil would be sitting pretty. As would Canada, Australia and Argentina, and all those French farmers.

              Don't know about India though.

"Japan is the largest and most consistent importer of corn in the world. The United States satisfies nearly all of Japan's demand. During fiscal year 2006, Japan imported 16.5 million metric tons (649 million bushels) of U.S. corn.

Mexico, Taiwan, Canada, Egypt and Colombia are also major corn importers and important markets for the United States."

                        • "USDA US Rice Export Sales Last Week
By Oryza News on June 04,2007

Net sales of 37,400 MT were double the previous week and 33 percent over the prior 4-week average. The primary buyers were Taiwan (15,800 MT), Mexico (9,400 MT), Canada (4,700 MT), and the United Kingdom (3,900 MT). Exports of 40,600 MT were 51 percent below the previous week and 47 percent under the prior 4-week average. The major destinations were Cuba (23,400 MT), Mexico (6,100 MT), Canada (3,400 MT), South Korea (3,100 MT), and the United Kingdom (1,800 MT).
                          "

We also import some rice (i believe specialty rice from Asia) but are net exporters, I think.

Yeah. It would be nice if the grain market crisis wasnt coming at the same time as a general trade/demand crisis, or at the same time as political and military adjustments. But they are.

Not the end of western civilization, but definitely a dystopian scenario.

                            • That brings up an interesting question, what happens to the NA continent in the economical long term? How long would it take to have agricultural outputs comparable to current levels? And what kind of an economy would different courtiers develop there?
