The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

Maybe against the concept of "white", which is as artificial as the concept "black" ('whiteness' being invented to counter 'blackness').

So now you want to invent the "self-hating white"?

Is this supposed to be one of those "self-evident" thingys?
Yes, actually, it is. Spectacularly self-evident in the US at least.

Why is this a difficult concept for you?

And the wonderful thing about claiming something is self-evident is that you don't have to provide any evidence for it at all.

That's generally called racism or sexism, regardless of the "position of power". I'm not oppressing anyone, so I don't feel guilty. I also don't feel guilty simply for being an Austrian, a people so involved in Nazism. What I do feel is responsability not to make similar mistakes as my ancestors, many gender-colleagues, etc. I only feel guilty when I make a mistake myself.
Racism requires prosition of power. If you get pissed off about what they are saying that's a choice you make. It doesn't effect you economically. You can still get loan, job etc... You only get pissed off for your own reasons.

                  • Kid, well, it is a marginal group (these who claim these things). It's not that I'd get upset about people getting upset about things. Of course there's many black people who would be upset today, and probably will be upset tomorrow and many days to come. I'd be pretty damn upset myself.

However, the problem I have with this is the forum. I don't like crap like this mixed up in higher education. I don't think ANY kind of politics should be part of it. I don't think it's a bad idea to have... focus and maybe special times and days when the history is told and examined regarding this issue and how it affects minorities today, but that approach fits Universities and so forth. This kind of thing? This is just militant, I don't see a place for it in Unis. That is all.

It wouldn't practically make a difference if ti was something else than this. I've stated many times before that ID has no place in Universities, not even as a theory (because it isn't even a theory, scientifically) and so forth. If we bring other issues that mix up and mostly just confuse the average Joe who pretty much believes anything, I'd be against that as well. So I'm against the forum this is taking place. Get it somewhere else, or come back with proper stuff.

Why should you care what someone thinks of you? Do you think black people care what white people think of them? Probably most of them don't. They just want to be treated justly. If you are upset about what someone thinks about you that says more about you than it does about them.

                        • Power is a key component when freedom is the issue. THe one who has power has inherently more freedom. It's very simple. Though I don't see how it would mean that if you don't have power, you couldn't be racist. I think the point is, that if you have power, you could install racist laws and enforce things based upon those beliefs, whereas without power it's mostly just pushing and shoving.

The professor in the OP already invented the "automatically-racist white", so I don't think that's much of a stretch.
