  • No. Oppression doesn't necessarially equal racism and even if it did it would only be one aspect of the word and wouldn't justify what you said.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

    • Kid, ideas that are presented in a way that suits the forum. I don't care what it is, but if people start babbling insane things without the proper way of proving, showing or at least debating properly, it's got no place there. Carbage is not a challenge.

I think the point is, that if you have power, you could install racist laws and enforce things based upon those beliefs, whereas without power it's mostly just pushing and shoving.
But black nationalists don't want to install racist laws. They want to live by thier own laws. They want to be seperated.

I didn't say that are equal. I said that the term racism originated within the context of oppression. Without oppression you have a different context and therefore you have something else besides racism.

          • Kid, I'm not here to talk about black nationalists or their strategies. I just answered on your behalf, so I find it weird you'd have a problem with it.

First, these ideas are a part of history and the civil rights movement. You can't even teach the history of this country without teaching these ideas.

Second, why shouldn't all ideas be presented and let the students examine them. Why should the educators determine what is garbage?

Generally, blacks who believe that all whites are racist are black nationalists. They don't believe that blacks can ever be treated justly so they want to create a seperate nation. Honestly though, I was just making an assumption.

                • Well, because this is trivial. It has 0 value.

You're taking a relativist position. It never works.

                  • There is a difference between an idea and a policy, Kid.

To avoid drowning the students in a flood of nonsense. There are necessarily many potential wrong answers for every single correct one, and eliminating falsehoods takes time better spent investigating the truth in detail. Are you advocating that we teach students the four humors, geocentrism and phrenology along with the germ theory of disease, Copernicus and psychology?

I'm not talking about teaching students how to do long division the wrong way. This is history and social science. Many civil rights leaders have had similar view points. Not presenting their ideas is essentially white washing history. You don't get to say which ideas are nonsense. The ideas have had a following and may still today have a following and if you want to teach history correctly you need to present them.

That's not the definition of racism. This is how racism affects me, which is virtually zero. Yet, that doesn't mean people who have no power couldn't be racist. Many white racists are far from being in a position to affect others economically and are not violent. They still can be racist simply by feeling superior.
And there can also be areas where African Americans do have a position of power and racism occurs.I'm sure it's hard to be a "white" kid in a black ghetto area because of being in a relatively pwerless position. That kid would be kicked for being white, being associated with the "oppressor" while not being responsible.
Racism simply means to divide humanity along patterns of skin color and ancestry and to make conclusion from this classification over certain matters, like behaviour, physical differences, intelligence or even ethics.
I despise every form of racism, especially when it's valuating or ranking, no matter if the one who holds that position is in a favorable position or himself oppressed.

Me and my son, who is 9, live in an all black neighborhood. He is known as "that white boy." Many of the people here are prejudice against white people. In fact, the more black people that I get to know the more I realize how prejudice they are. You can really tell when they get drunk or stoned and they forget that they are in the company of a white person. Then they say something prejudice, and then there is a pause and then they say, but "we aren't talking about you Kidicious, you are our black brother."

Do I give a ****? Hell know, and my son doesn't either. We just laugh about it. That is prejudice, not racism. Racism is differentiated by being an "ism." It has an effect on individuals beyond just giving them bad feelings.

And by the way I can go to any place in this city and get a job. In fact, I can get a job plenty of places around here from lots of white people.
