Nah, Humanity originated on Earth, Earth had a nuclear war, they went to Kobol, had a BAD THING happen to them there, created the 12 colonies(the 13th forgot that Earth was nuked and left for it), the 12 Colonies were nuked, so the remnants went to find Earth.

I suspect the 13th Tribe found Earth, when "pff this is bull****" and moved on.

I will bet that the Colonial transponder they followed to Earth is from Kara's real Viper (ie, the one she was in when she disappeared).

Perhaps this is all being driven by this BSG's version of the People of Light, which in the original series appeared to be a highly advanced race, but no further clues were made. It could be that the Colonials are an earlier version of "artificial beings" created by Humans (Lords of Kobol, who had themselves left for Kobol after some catastrophe), that then rebelled and left Kobol after destroying their masters, and then eventually created their own slaves, who rebelled, and so forth, but this time the remnants of humanity (humans 1.0), who are far more advanced than anyone else due to longevity, are trying to settle this new part of the cycle.

Great episode and cliffhanger. Wow...I love this show.

I also think (and have thought) that the people who left Earth, possibly due to war and infighting, formed Kobol and then the 12 colonies. They were like the Puritans of the future (so to speak). Perhaps they left Earth due to nuclear war breaking out?

Of course, this doesn't mean that ALL life is dead on the planet. There could still be pockets of survivors. After all, say that only a few countries got nuked, while the rest would have to deal with nuclear winter, it doesn't mean that every human was exterminated, and perhaps they were the ones who sent out a signal.

I think the last 10 eps will have to deal with what exactly happened to Earth and the search for any survivors... and of course, fighting off the Cavils when they eventually show up.

....I am also left with a sense that this would've been an awesome series finale. I really don't know if the true final episode can top this.

Imagine the series ending on barren Earth and just fading to black. It would have been a well talked about Wow.

From what I have read in the media, Sci-Fi added an hour to the series finale, so whatever the ending will be, it will hopefully have enough time to play itself out.

Well, they also have like 10 more episodes until they get to that point too, so if they planned it right, they will be .

The point was that those ten episodes were going to be 10 hours, but now they will be 11 hours. There has been some rumor that in fact the second half of the season was going to be 12 hours, and what I read was that the series finale was currently looking like it was 3 hours long (I assume it would be broken up into two 1.5 hour pieces).

It doesn't seem that this is all yet set in stone.

Personally I am glad they got to Earth now - getting to Earth and what it would be like was always one of those plot issues that I felt would damage the show if not done right.

Who do you think is the frakin' fifth one? Hubby thinks it's Starbug, I think #3 was right. I don't think she was just jacking with the President, I think it's her.

It's neither. After all, D'Anna makes it a point to say that the final 4 were in the fleet. Starbuck definitely qualifies and Roslin is waaaay to easy to make a Final 5. I think it's either Helo (with the Cylons at the time D'Anna said that) or someone we haven't seen.

That's where I went with it. When you see her being held and the shot goes to her face for a second.........that's what I told hubby, I'll be it's the kid but he didn't think it could be. HEllooooooo mother's a cylon! Duuuuu

Season 4 was supposed to go straight through, but then the writer's strike delayed the season and they decided to split it, with the 2nd half to begin early next year.

Which, in a way, really makes it more a Series 5.
