It is terribly rude to invite someone and then insult them when they arrive. I heard the audio and it was rude.
It was an academic event, it was totally appropriate to say what was said. Or would you rather he opened with raving reviews and then immediately contradicted himself in the questions? A spade is a spade, this wasn't a campaign stop.
His initial response to the president’s remarks shows just how delusional he is.
Mr Denier scored a win/win b/c he knew exactly how the US public would react.
I am sure in Amighanredfssaretd's mind he actually thought he could undermine US public opinion on Iran. He failed completely in this regard and probably had the opposite effect, and at the very least simply galvanized the hard liners.

1. What the Uni president said was rude. No way around that. Extra demerits for failing to actually ask a question.
2.
No it really has to do with world opinion
How about having your own? I'm well aware of "world opinion" and I'm also aware that there is a lot of it that's based on silly stereotypes. Electing a silly stereotype doesn't help, I'll admit (see #3).
3. I have no defense re: Bush's election in 2004, other than a personal one (I didn't vote for the *****). As you may recall, the initial election was... interesting.
4. Why I bother is beyond me. You've long ago made up your mind about the US. We could elect Kucinich and you'd complain.

If they were invited to speak, then it was just as wrong.
The students allowed him to speak at least which is more than can be said for the reaction Bollinger and the Columbia students gave far less contraversial speakers. Straightjacket should consider himself lucky.
During question time, it was right and proper to ask hard questions (and Ahdinnerjacket is a professor himself, so he knows the score),
Based on what I've heard from the discussion, he didn't actually answer the hard questions even during the question time. When do you think that the "professor" would have done so?

He was a guest Patroklos. I'd hate to be a guest at your place if you think it is alright to insult the guest during the introduction. He needn't open with "rave reviews", just a certain level of decency.

His positions can't stand up to tough scrutiny. I had no problems with though questions. Questions however are different than what Bollinger deleivered - That was a diatribe.

You can't be that dense. He wasn't trying to sway Americans minds.

I don't think you are referring to me (I never once claimed Mr. Denier is reasonable), but do you think I hate the US?

A guest who has made his views clearly known. There is absolutely no problem with introducing the person with an accurate introduction (ie facts about the person being introduced).
Could he have been nicer about it, sure. Does he have to be, no. Something tells me the president of Columbia University knows a little more about this sort of etiquette than you or I.

Not really. He was only attempting to mute some of the criticism he was recieving for issuing the invite to Straightjacket in the 1st place. I'm not sure he helped himself much though.

I will cease trying to explain to you what polite behaviour is in this context.

Yes he could have been nicer and no he didn't have to be. One of your greatest freedoms is the ability to be a jerk if you want to. Bollinger just exercised his rights.
As to knowing a little about it - The evidence speaks to the contrary.

Well obviously not.

I dont think Ahmahdinajad has a leg to stand on complainging about "rudeness".
Bollinger took heat for inviting him. He promised to ask tough questions, and he did. Bollinger

Ive never invited a holocaust denier into my home. Or a 9/11 conspiracy theorist. But then my home isnt a university devoted to the debate of controversial issues.
