    • I have to agree it wasn't much in the way of an introduction. Certainly the questions needed to be asked, but... shouldn't you wait till asking questions for that?

Otherwise you end up looking a bit like this: (only not funny)

They were kinda big questions for a Q and A. Its not uncommon in certain kinds of academic panels to start with the questions, and then have the panel address them. I think the format, of Bollinger laying down the questions for ahmahdinajad to respond to was reasonable.

Im not sure if Bollinger made the format clear in advance, he certainly should have.

          • Bollinger's insults were the best thing that could have happened to Ahmadinejad with regards to his situation back home. As the article quoted shows, it makes him look sympathetic. Why invite someone to then insult them?

As I said already, its a stupid way of appeasing critics, and if Bollinger's original intent was to insult Ahmadinejad like this, then he is areally an ass.

his statement was hardly eloquent, and as for "truth", well, if your definition of truth is opinion, well, that explains quite a lot.

For now, when the Iranian people have only seen a version edited by their govt run news. I cant beleive they heard the q's in their entirety.

Calling someone petty, uneducated, so forth is an insult, unles you have forgotten the definition of that as well.

I can see them all and they are clearly meant to insult. Your high opinion of them are based on the fact they are confrontaitonal and insulting. Maybe you miss the fact that the main point in that article is the notion of being a good host. The last thing that clip shows, edited or not, is Bollinger being a good host.

The speech was rambling, and had no overall theme other than - YOU BAD! which could have bene said in far fewer words.

Plus his calling the President of Iran a "dictator", when given the structure of the Islamic Republic he isn't, given that he does not even hold the most important parts of executive power, or his calling Moqtada al Sadr an "insurgent leader" speak of a kind of ignorance I would hope the president of Columbia would not exhibit.

There's the difference. I like it when Bush doesn't mince words. Say the truth, speak it plainly, don't back down once it's said.

I watched a portion of the Q and A... and those questions were asked there. Ahmadinejad seems to have had his own material to address in his speech.

                              • I would hope kids in Columbia are smart enough to ask questions, and given Ahmadinejad's fame (which the US seems to do everything possible to feed and increase), all the points Bollinger so undiplomatically brought up would have been covered (and as Aeson stated, they were.)
