I guess you just have rather lose definitions for "one of the most brutal" and "dictactor."

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

Actually I think he could have "lost" if you assume he was there for reasons other than showing his respects. Make it a joint visit, have Bush say something afterwards (er... that's the tricky part ) about a general stance on terrorism. "We are here to put aside whatever differences we might have to pay our respects to the victims of terrorism, and hope that we can do what is necessary to avoid such crimes from being committed, here or abroad, in the future."

We get to uphold our ideals of free speech, show that we can be respectful even to our enemies, and if "Mr. ImEviljad" is as so many people think he is, he's stuck standing there "supporting" our war on terror... because he can't really stand up and argue with what is said if we keep it generalized enough. He can't say, "Well I'm here to pay my respects, but I support terrorism". Turn it into our photo-op and ulterior motive, and let him be the pawn.

We could have at least called it a draw and let him visit, and just leave it at that. Instead we chose to pwn ourselves.

        • Aeson,

That would have required that our side be subtle and capable communicators.

          Buwahahahaha!

he against Terrorism. Bombs that kill eevil Jew land occupiers not being Terrorism, or for that matter bombs used by the glorious Iraqi resistance against anyone in particlar. as everyone knows.

9/11 was terrorism cause it was done by those eevil Sunni Wahabis, whom he's against, as everyone knows, cause they killed Shiites in Mazar e Sharif, and the Muyllahs would NEVER betray their fellow Shiites (well not if you dont count the Iranian Shiites theyve imprisoned or killed over the years)

That is unless it WASNT done by the eevil Wahabis, but by someone else, as he seems to have implied.

                  • What Bollinger said:

"Mr. President, you exhibit all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator," Bollinger said, to loud applause.

He said Ahmadinejad's denial of the Holocaust might fool the illiterate and ignorant.

"When you come to a place like this it makes you simply ridiculous," Bollinger said. "The truth is that the Holocaust is the most documented event in human history."

                    ....

"You are either brazenly provocative or astonishingly uneducated," Bollinger told Ahmadinejad about the leader's Holocaust denial.

                    • I say we let him speak in the US all he wants. The more he opens his mouth, the more he shows his true nature. If we shut people up, then we just give credability to their claims against us. If we let them speak, only the most ridiculous anti-American morons will still back these hate-mongers up. As for laying a wreath, I think we did the right thing there too. It's as much of an insult to the victims as those idiots protesting at soldier's funerals because "God hates fags". I have no doubt in my mind this guy had a huge smile on his face and was praising Allah when the towers of the WTC fell. Again, only hate-mongers jealous of the US's success would thing we're jerks for that. You're a jerk if you think we should kiss the @ss of someone who would rather see each one of us dead as look at us. It's a spit in our face that he even made the request.

                      • clear up your link dude.

The political eradication of Israel. I happen to agree with him on that. I think Israel is one of the worst ideas in the history of international diplomacy, and that it's a racist, rogue, apartheid state supported by (but obviously not solely by) racist Jewish bigots.
                        LOL

The entire ME was drawn up as lines in the sand by france and britain. 99% of countries are backwards, ethnically unstable, economically unreliable, have matured to sprout 1920s style nationalistic military dictatorships, and are fertile grounds for poor fundamentalist religious fanatics.
100 times more arabs died in inter-arab border conflicts than in war with Israel, and many more due to revolutions, ethnical cleansing and so on.
And Israel you have a problem with?

Your world view is seriously skewed.

Of course saying anything mean about Israel in the US will get the Zionist mafia on your back, so people don't freely discuss it in the public arena there (like those guys who had to get the Poms to publish their paper on the Israel lobby). Elsewhere we're happy to speak freely.

But in this scenario we make it "our" version of Terrorism that the statement is against.

That would have no impact. Look at what happened at Columbia, where he was allowed to speak and folks like aggie are already attacking Bollinger.

I know... it sucks. It wasn't always that way though! If you gave Lincoln or JFK a trump card like paying respects to the victims of 9/11...
