I believe there is a point when parents spend to much time with their kids anyway and it becomes counter productive.

My obersvations doesn't agree with this at all. Most parents spend almost no time with their kids when their kids are older then 10 (and they should), and spend way less than they should when their kids are under 6.

Where do you find parents who spend too much time with their kids?

I don't agree with some employees being more valuable than others. I see it purely as effort, the results of the work and the process. So it's not about who does it, it's about the work itself and the work has a price and it's paid to an individual.

So no, I don't regard parents being more valuable workers. However, I don't think certain benefits are about equality. For example child care and some kind of on site assistance, I don't see what the big deal is. Maternity leaves etc., I think those are what civilized places do, not benefits. The problem is if we don't have these things. I think it's great if a company is willing to chip in and it's purely about image, it's about having employees a bit happier so it's business. It's like some companies are now environmentally conscious. OK, it's not about saving the nature for many (maybe for some it is though), it's about image. It pays off to uphold some values. If it didn't, it would be useless to mention that we do these and these things for the environment and it costs us this much.. it's advertising. But it's also the positive effects of the marketplace.

It becomes a question of equality when others are deprived from the situation. As in someone gets paid more because they have kids in their salary. They don't, they are just getting certain benefits.

and who even knows if the married folks are telling the truth. The guy or woman could be at a bar geting drunk.

We had that in the navy. Married guys used every excuse in the book to get out early. Marred guys in the navy got it pretty sweet. They got paid more too.

I would have thought that the military used a standard Grade/Step pay system, just like the rest of the government. How did married guys get paid more?

They get paid BAQ to live off base.

Granted when I got out, they started giving E-5's (my rank) money to live off base if you were stationed on a ship. When I was in, we took it out of our own pockets. I lived in an apartment with 3 other guys. Wasn't bad splitting a 4 bedroom apartment 4 ways.

I think they also got more money if they had kids.

Yeah you could always live on the ship when in port. But it sucks being woke up 7AM on saturday morning with a hangover because some guy 2 decks above you is grinding on the steel deck.

Letting single E-5s get BAH has a big mistake, so many trouble makers

But the BAH rates makes sense, I you household has more people they require a larger residence, and the point of BAH is to defray the cost of housing.

And it is just BAH with dependants period, kids do not matter.

Just like people in San Diego get twice as much as people in Norfolk, cost of living.

Yeah you could always live on the ship when in port. But it sucks being woke up 7AM on saturday morning with a hangover because some guy 2 decks above you is grinding on the steel deck.

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Sure. Depends on what kinds of kids you raise though...

Men with kids tend to be two things.

                        1. More productive.
                        2. Less likely to leave the company for other things.

I can't blame your employer. Before it used to work that you were very lucky as a single man to get jobs ahead of married men, just because it means less risk for the person who is hiring to hire someone who is married. I know if I was running a company I'd want the married men, and then if I couldn't fill all the positions, the single men for the job.

what's this selfish thinking? I wonder who pays back these parents all the good things they are doing to society, like bringing up beneficial members of society, paying their tuition for college, etc. .....

In my experiance married people spend their time worrying/whining about their families than working.
