Here's my friend's steps from Rilo Kiley to Sam Cooke for your edification:
sam cooke's song "nothing can change this love" was covered by jonathon richman
jonathon richman worked with producer John Cale on various demos.
John Cale was formerly a member of the Velvet Underground
Rilo Kiley covered "after hours" by the velvet underground.
Here's her steps for Claus Nomi to Tom Waits:
okay so nomi was a backup singer for bowie (according tothis ).
bowie produced lust for life for iggy pop.
iggy pop appeared with tom waits in coffee and cigarettes.
I never know their names, But i smile just the same

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds collaborated with Shane McGowan on 'What A Wonderful World'...

The Pogues incl. Shane McGowan duetted with Kirsty MacColl on a cover version of Cole Porter's 'Miss Otis Regrets' on the H.I.V./A.I.D.S. charity album 'Red Hot & Blue- A Tribute To Cole Porter'...

and Neneh Cherry sang a cover version of Cole Porter's 'I've Got You Under My Skin' on the very same album.

I also remembered yesterday that Rick Wakeman of 'Yes' played keyboards for Bowie on the 'Space Oddity' and 'Hunky Dory' albums, so I could have managed Fiona Apple to Jon Anderson in 6 after all.

        Double darn.

        Okay.

        June Tabor to Rufus Thomas.
Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

              Good job

I had an idea that the connection would be found through the Cole Porter tribute.

But let's try and include the video or audio clips if available - it livens up the thread quite a bit. (instructions on how to include clips to be found on the first post of this message)

              For this line then:

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds collaborated with Shane McGowan on 'What A Wonderful World':

I've learned from experience, this time I won't dash off looking for a band called "double darn"

              Okay.

              June Tabor to Rufus Thomas.
              Check!

              So for the next round...

                            From my friend.
b.j. thomas did the theme to growing pains which was also covered by dusty springfield

dusty springfield's song "Son of a preacher man" was covered by Aretha Franklin

Aretha is the god mother of Whitney Houston

Nathan East cowrote songs for Whitney Houston.

Nathan East is a member of FOurplay

Fourplay did a collaboration called Four by Four with Casiopea

                              Great job

Your friend beat me to it. (You should really talk him/her into joining Apolyton! )

For the sake of interest, here's my alternative path:

                              1. Casiopea covers Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely":

                              2. Stevie Wonder sang Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind":

                              3. Elvis Costello covered Bob Dylan's "I Threw It All Away" (no video/audio)

                              4. Burt Bacharach performed with Elvis Costello in the movie "Austin Powers 2":

                              5. Burt Bacharach covered BJ Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head": (Video is from a Burt Bacharach tribute night, sung by Ben Folds Five, introduced by Burt Bacharach: )

So, as per your friend's choise, the next artists:

                              Moldy Peaches

                              and

                              Hank Williams Sr.
Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)
