Ok, for the next round, it's time to find the links between:

    The famous French songbird:

    Edith Piaf

and the oddball with a star studded fan base:

    Daniel Johnston

Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)

Yeah... Beatles seems to be a real "hub" for linking artists.

Hmm.... What do you think? Should I add a note onto the first post saying something like "resort to the The Beatles only if you can't find another path (as everybody and their brother has covered The Beatles)" ?

My post was only part-serious (after all this is a game, not that it really matters).

I stated on the 1st page all roads will lead through the Beatles and the subsequent links have all(?) included them. They are an easy link for most artists since they covered many songs themselves and have been covered by everyone and their dog since then.

True - The Beatles (or their members) seems to have been involved in all the chains, in one way or the other, with the exception of the AC - PJ Harvey path.

Added a note to the first post promissing extra respect for managing to link the artists WITHOUT involving The Beatles.

            Good solution.

Sadly, I have little time to play today although Thursday and Friday are shaping up to be quiet days at the office.

              A solution without the Beatles.

Edith Piaf sang "La vie en rose" which was covered by Dean Martin also.

Bob Dylan sang "Return To Me", originally by Dean Martin.
Return To Me sheet music by Dean Martin. Sheet music arranged for Piano/Vocal/Guitar in F Major (transposable).

Bob Dylan's song "He Was a Friend of Mine " was covered by Mercury Rev.
              (no video)

Mercury Rev sang Daniel Johnston's "Blue Clouds" on "The Late Great Daniel Johnston: Discovered Covered"
              (no video)

Who are we looking for now?

I've got a friend who doesn't have an account here playing too and she found:
edith piaf did a song called "La vie en rose" which was covered by Diana Krall.
Diana Krall is married to Elvis Costello.
Elvis Costello's song "What's so funny about peace love and understanding" was covered by Yo La Tengo
Yo La Tengo worked with Daniel Johnston on the Speeding Motorcycle single
I never know their names, But i smile just the same
                New faces...Strange places,
Most everything i see, Becomes a blur to me

The choise of artists for the next round is up to phoenixcager - welcome to the game, and well done.

To add to phoenixcager's solution, found an audio sample for the final link of his chain:

Mercury Rev sang Daniel Johnston's "Blue Clouds" on "The Late Great Daniel Johnston: Discovered Covered":

(Also discovered that www.last.fm gives you the code for embeding the sample into the forum... got to edit that into the tips on the fist post!)

                  Also, mactbone's friend

Maybe you can persuade him/her to join apolyton.

So phoenixcager - the artists/bands, if you'd be so kind?

Thought that that list deserves to be spruced up a bit... just for additional entertainment value:

No clips for the first connections, but found two versions of "Speeding Motorcycle" - Yo La Tengo's and the original Daniel Johnston performance:

                      Yo La Tengo:

                      Daniel Johnston:

And now back to the current challenge...

Wang Lee Hom and Guy Sebastian

Bad Religion played "Johnny B. Goode" by Chuck Berry

Cool cartoon too. And Bowie being taught self defence? An eccentric path for two eccentrics, I guess...

                              So now it's

                              Sam Cooke
