    3. Black Sabbath's "Hand of Doom" is covered by Slayer. (No video available)

    4. Tori amos covers Slayers "Raining Blood":

    5. Tori Amos plays the harpsichord in a live version of "Unravel" with Björk:

    6. And finally... Björk sings the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" as a duet with PJ Harvey:

    Whew.... now that was HARD!

So, the next artist to start with:

    Fiona Apple

And please be a tiny bit more gentle this time around.
actually, you're one step too many. you can go from pantera to slayer without stopping at black sabbath.

      Connetions of the type

      X covered Y
      Z also covered Y

have been allowed (and used fairly often) in the thread. Not allowing them would definitely make the game a lot harder, and, I suspect, drive away participants.... spending hours on researching music you may not be into isn't something many people would volunteer to do.

Although, shorter paths, and with more sturdy links are always more impressive.

it had just occurred to me at work. it seemed like a stronger link to me. i wasn't trying to steal anyone's thunder, as i sure as hell couldn't go from seth's band to pj harvey.

          No offence taken at all!

Alternative paths, and discussion of found paths are quite wellcome.

Now that I got to thinking about it, that path could be arguably cut to 5 steps - there's a rather strenuous direct link between Tori Amos and PJ harvey, and it's this:

1994 - Bjork, Tori and PJ together in a magazine cover shoot.

Found a site with good quality streamed samples (Or are they whole songs? ) for each of the songs on that album - sounds very good. Don't own it, but I'll be ordering that one for sure.

                      The site is here: http://www.radio3net.ro/sp2/db_artis...#p_player13635

Nice to get a good find through the game.

The two Waits songs mentioned are "Purple Avenue" and "The Part You Throw Away"

The artists for the next round:

                      Pixies

                      and

                      Marissa Nadler

                              • I believe we just had the first Elvis sighting of the thread! (of the Presley kind, Costello's surfaced a couple of times)

Good solutions again - here's some video for the path Molly found:

The Pixies lead singer Frank Black performed with David Bowie at Bowie's Madison Square Gardens' birthday bash on 'Fashion' and 'Scary Monsters'...:

David Bowie worked with Brian Eno on three albums, 'Low', ' "Heroes" ' and 'Lodger'... (video of a more recent collaboration between the two: )

Brian Eno and David Byrne released 'My Life In The Bush of Ghosts'... (a landmark album... though I'm not at all into synth dominated music and extensive sampling, this is still one album that I often listen to. At first you are drawn in by it's oddity, and then it grows on you and you see it's genious. Video with a track from the album: )

and David Byrne (and Tina Weymouth & Chris Frantz) attended Rhode Island School of Design- as did Marissa Nadler.

                                ------------------------

The easy path I hinted at was a really simple one: Pixies covered "I Can't Forget" by Leonard Cohen:

And Marissa Nadler covered "Famous Blue Raincoat" by Leonard Cohen:

So on with the next round then... as per phoenixcager's choise, Joe Satriani and Dame Kiri Janette Te Kanawa.
