They weren't removed for just that. And considering the rest of their behavior I very much doubt they just chanced upon the seating configuration.

Well, the article does show it is about religious faith in non-English languages. Apparently the Hasidic Jew was praying in Hebrew, which made folks nervous. If it was in English, not sure it would have had to same paranoid effect.

There arent close to a billion muslims who fly in the US. If youre going to look at the global population of muslims as somehow victimised, one might look at the number of terrorists incidents involving muslims, from London, to Madrid, to New Delhi, to Moscow and Baslan, to Tel Aviv and Ashdod, to Bali, to Baghdad and Kabul and Karachi and Srinigar...... well Im sorry I brought it up, cause I really do beleive that the majority of the billion of muslims oppose most of that terror, and at least some muslims oppose even the terror in Tel Aviv and Srinigar, and for their sake one must not make generalizations. But you brought in the question of a billion muslims.

Thats why I specifically said "particular religions" since obviously atheists dont pray on planes. Language is a different issue than religion (though of course in Judaism, Islam, and some forms of eastern and old Catholic Christianity its related) and is not necessarily an irrational basis for discrimination on security questions.

And of those terrorist attacks, what percentage of the world's population of Muslims were involved? Half a percent? Less?

So white people who pray in foreign languages can get tossed. Do you not see the difference between that and "the eevil racists at USAir are paranoid about brown muslims"

My only take away from the 6 imam crisis is the rapidity of response and coordination of same would indicate that the event was staged for maximum political impact.

                Just my impression.

How the **** would anyone be able to recognize this "seating configuration"?

Very few were involved, many less than approved of them. Far fewer approved of the bombings in London or Madrid than appproved of the bombings in Srinigar and Tel Aviv, AFAICT.

The fact that they were Muslims and were brown (Mid Eastern looking), I'm positive had a big effect on things. People don't look at you as funny if you are a white guy.

we're not talking about ordinary folks looking at you funny, but about airline crews taking folks off planes.

White folks tend to look funny at black guys wearing hoodies. Is that evidence of racial profiling by police?

When that added suspicion results in a black guy in a hoodie getting arrested for something silly, it definately does contribute (especially if the cops happen to be the same white folks that look at black guys in hoodies funny).

Do you think Hasidic Jews look brown too?

actually i have some hasidic relatives who have nice darkish olive coloring, who could easily pass for middle easterners. (POTM has some of that, but is lightened by my own fair skin genes) Thats probably not surprising given that Ashkenazic Jews are substantially of middle eastern origin.

Geez, Im old enough to remember when Canada was torn apart by a goddamned pair of kidnappings. How many kidnappings have been recorded in Canada in the last 35 years, but those practically set the country into a civil war

If you didn't notice, the October Crisis ended in October that same year. The tanks went away. Life went back to normal. And if I'd been around in 1970 I would have told you exactly what I thought of the effectiveness and legitimacy of the Trudeau government's actions.
