Im getting REALLY tired of people saying things that are directly contradicted by reality, without even bothering to look for a source.

Oh, and that, BTW, happened in brave, brave, Canada. Looks like the adult diaper market could be pretty good up there too - well at least theyve got plenty of softwood lumber to make the things out of.
    What can I say. It's infectious...and despicable.

By the way, I might note that the flight was going to NYC. Any bets on which passengers peed themselves?

If you didn't notice, the October Crisis ended in October that same year. The tanks went away. Life went back to normal. And if I'd been around in 1970 I would have told you exactly what I thought of the effectiveness and legitimacy of the Trudeau government's actions.

        It's been 5 years now.

Arresting people wearing arabic on their t-shirts or phoning in because you see arabic writing on the side of a bus is the height of ridiculousness.

Noticing a suspicious package on the subway is one thing. This is another.
Its been five years, and we're still fighting these guys. Its like NOT over. And sending Bush back to Texas wont make it be over. I sure wouldnt have called in cause I saw Arabic on the side of a bus - but the notion that Americans are going around quaking in fear is silly.

If anything, most Americans are complacent, and ARENT checking for packages on the metro.

And I havent noticed you saying anything about the brave Canadian air crew, who valiantly saved Montreal from a lone Hassid.

Perhaps they thought hed beat up a woman for sitting next to him?

If that's the standard then we'll be seeing this **** for the next 50 years.

Infectious - we canadians are naturally brave, its cowardice from america that has infected us.

Come off it, youre better than this.

Given the number of Hassidim in NYC (and yeah, i know theres a bunch in Montreal) I doubt very much it was New Yorkers.

If you wanted to go by traditions of xenophobic antisemitism, it would probably be some "pur lain" kinda guy. But whats the point of speculating?

                Is it really?

It might have deliberately been a bit overstated, but it's got an element of truth in it.

Terrorism has become this vast, omnipotent bogeyman in the minds of a lot of people. There is absolutely no sense of proportion about it.

Dude, have you seriously not come to recognise when I'm ****ing around a little bit?

You played it back at me on the FLQ **** and with the airplane thing. Don't get all sensitive on me...

If it was antisemitism, then yes. If he'd been beaten for having the audacity to pray in an airplane then I'd have gone with this.

But if it was fear-based, then no. I'd rate it as more likely that if it was a Canadian he was english than French.

I'm sure the Holocaust had nothing to do with anti-Semitism.

It is really. Yes. When the question comes up of who should run the national govt, its a big question, cause, you know the first purpose of a national govt is providing security against external attacks. But in daily life, no Id say its NOT a vast omnipotent bogeyman.

A bit overstated, an element of truth. yeah, like Europe is overrun by antisemitic violence has an "element" of truth to it.

There are some things I dont accept "****" around on, and the minimization of 9/11 is one of them, esp if its implied that because its still central to our national mood, we are therefore cowards.

I wouldnt have brought up the other stuff otherwise.

I was thinking less antisemitism than general ignorance about Jews, and xenophobia. But like i said, theres no real point in speculating.

Maybe in Houston you are. Here in DC, where we actually have a better chance of getting attacked, I dont see anybody quaking in their boots.
