I don't do that, and don't approve of it either.

Wanting to inflict pain on animals is a sign of disturbing psychological problems.

    • I don't sport fish, for instance. While in Mexico, I passed on the opportunities to go marlin fishing.

I just contend that if you think it's fun to watch something writhe in pain, you're a little screwed up.
Sometimes when I see a cockroach in my home I watch it flail about after getting it with roach spray before scooping it up and flushing it did the toilet. It's a disgusting bug, there's nothing cruel about inflicting it with pain.

I love fishing, or at least did when I was younger.

I just don't want to do things that inflict harm or pain on any living thing unless it is necessary.

That's because it's a bug. It barely even has a brain. I don't object to squishing bugs or even reptiles. Mammals and cephalopods are far more intelligent, however.

Well-adjusted or not, no hunting means a lot more deer running out in front of cars. The population needs to be kept down, and bullets are a lot cheaper than cars.

Er, by what definition of "needless?"

One can easily subsist in perfect health without eating meat at all.

But deer running in front of cars helps keep down the deer population and helps prevent human overpopulation. This helps contain two populations at once. Is that good?

It also increases demand for cars to replace the smashed up wrecks which is good for employment.
