    • Either way it doesn't seem to be a very impressive game.

Then again, Football isn't a very impressive sport.

The last time I played Madden it was '94 or something. And it was boring then, too.

IIRC, the 360 scores were hurt because the next-gen consoles are missing features in the current-gen consoles because of the new engine.

If the console was $149 like it should be, I'd have no problem with accepting it as the mass-market Tiger-electronics game console it is.

The problem is at $249, it's pricing itself dangerously close to FAR more capable consoles.

I have real problems buying the Wii at its current pricerange simply because I know Nintendo's profit margins are insane on it.

It's the same reason I don't buy Windows.

For $249 Nintendo could add a Radeon X1600 GPU that's about 6x faster than the one in the Wii, or a PowerPC 970/G5 2.2GHz and still have a sizable profit. Their quest for MASSIVE profits over a truly quality product changed that.

You realize that movement of the chuck itself registers with the system, its not just an analog pad and 2 buttons.

You could move your guy with the chuk's analog pad and then move the entire chuck physically to deke.. Zelda uses the chuck similarly with the player pushing outwards with the chuk to block with a shield.

That's more a problem for all sports games, and not the consoles.

Sorry, misunderstood you -- thought you meant moving the 'chuck from side to side.

This is starting to sound like a very complicated control scheme -- controlling three axises (axii?) at once?

I thought the goal was to simplify.

So in the new Starfox, you would move away from a WW2-style flight model (where you aim your plane at the target to fire) to a Star Wars-style flight model (where your gun turrets and plane direction are independent)? That's quite a departure from Starfox.
More like a Freelancer model (I don't know where you got Star Wars from). Star Fox was already halfway there - it's a rail shooter, you use the analog stick to control a cursor on the screen (the reticule), which serves two mostly independent purposes. In some cases you put the cursor over the target you want to hit, in other cases you use the cursor to actually change your direction. While they both happen whenever you use the cursor, you usually are only really trying to do one or the other.

hah. I should be more careful with my wording....

Sports games are rich in strategy, that's the thing. While the Wii helps in being "pick up and play" and adds shallow details that are "nifty" like using the wrist to snap the ball, all of these "nifty" things start getting in the way of real strategy. That's precisely what the Joystiq guy meant by just wanting to hit "A" to snap it. He doesn't care anymore, the novelty grew old, and he wants to concentrate on the strategy of the game.

Was thinking of the capital ships.

In any case, can you explain why this is not popular with dual analog sticks.

Again, in both cases you're using analog movement to control two things.
