Is this from the same person who advocated adding more skater stats to offset the Goalie stats?

Not sure what offensive stat you would add to replace +/-. I agree it is unpredicatable but I think it is among the best of the choices available regardless of that.

    • I disagree with +/- being unpredictable. Its a decent indicator of how good the team is of the player you've drafted. Well, atleast at even strengthed hockey.

All sorts of Sens players had great +/- last year.

Yeah, but I'm not sure if we're drafting the player or the team. +/- is a much more of a team indicator than one of the players, which is why it's "unpredictable".

It does reward you for picking players on good teams, but I'm not sure that's a good idea in general.

Incredible players like Phaneuf, for instance, have very pedestrian +/- because the forwards infront of him don't score all that much.

        • So I take it by the number of players left on the bench, Assmonkey is Pekka's team?

I'm glad I argued against the league taking over his team, then.

            • Not as fugly as all of the moves you keep making. Desperate, are you?

It's nice of you to constantly pick players up for a single game so they sit on waivers for the next couple though. Clever, even, if not a bit evil.

Officially, what is our league's policy on player whoring? If we've got a waiver period we should have some kind of gentleman's agreement.

Constantly rotating players on a regular basis with those n the FA pool for a single game just to get more skater/goalie games in is a bit cheap and unfair to everyone else who has to wait for the players dumped back to clear waivers.

                • That's just the way the it works in fantasy hockey, especially H2H. I don't see it as unfair when everyone has equal access to pickup players.

For active participants who are willing to essentially give up roster spots for rotating (rather than sticking with talented players for should be good for the long haul), the free agent pool is there to be used.

But the free agent pool is also there for less active participants, and those who would prefer to stick with a semi-permanent roster.

Everyone has equal access to free agents. More active poolies will of course be the first to jump on hot players, whether they are "rotators" or not. If you see someone you want long term picked up by one of the "rotators", put the player on your watch list and pick him up when he's available again. And be aware of close matchups towards the end of the week - you can depend on those poolies making moves for appropriate players to try to win the matchup, regardless of whether they are regular "rotators" or not. It's all part of the game.

If enough people don't like it these aspects of H2H, I would recommend we go for a points or rotisserie league next year. However, even in the different formats, there's always going to be more and less active poolies, and the less active people are always going to be *****ing about the guys they should have picked up, and the more active people are always going to regret dropping guys they should have kept.

I'm somewhat amused by NYE becoming the constant rotator, because I seem to recall him complaining about the same thing last year, when I rotated my way into the playoffs, and then 1st place in the playoffs.

                  • I don't mind the rotating, so long as we don't have an extended waiver period that robs other people from the chance of picking up the player.

I think it's ridiculous that a single player can be responsible for half a dozen worthy players being untouchable for parts of the week simply because he's desperate for skater/goalie games. I don't think that's a very fun way to play the game.

In my other Yahoo league, this is common...but we've got 0-day waivers so it doesn't lock out many of the players on a regular basis.

I think we should establish some kind of gentleman's agreements regarding constantly picking up/dropping players just for one game of play. It's a disadvantage to people who can't be sitting at their computer all day all the time, and it's simply a pain in the ass to have players locked away on a regular basis.

                    • I was actually debating the waiver period when I set the league up and simply chose 2 days to keep it the same as last year. I can go in and change that figure now to one day or no waiver period at all if people think that would be better. I don't see a disadvantage to anyone if we changed it now, but I'm sure someone here will point one out.

                      • When I switched to 0-day waivers last season, a bunch of people got their panties in a twist. Now I can see why, locking out player availability by exploiting the waiver system is a strategy for some people...

                        • I have no problem with eliminating the waiver period. Should we have a vote on it?

                          • However, keep in mind that there is a good chance we'll see even more activity without a waiver period. If a desirable fringe player has Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday games, you could see them picked up each day and dropped the next. This could be an even greater advantage to active players.

                            • I'm leaning towards just a policy against such activities...

                              • In the past, when I comished a league, I set waiver periods to the max.

It allows for more lockouts, but it also hurts teams that are less active less.
