He had one go off his hands for an early INT, then fumbled away that 23-yarder. He was on the bench for their last drive of the1st half. The announcers were speculating he was benched. Then I left for the gym.

      • All of Cleveland's RB's are hurt? They may lose in last seconds to a FG. I'm trying to follow along on games at NFL.

            • Browns and Steelers. Not sure who got the royal screwing between the 2. Steeler stats look decent.

                  • ...and yes, Plaxico Burress is officially in the doghouse. He has not played since his fumble.

42-30 now. Onside kick failed. Seattle will hang on.

                    • What this SHOULD mean is that next game, Burress will be motivated to the max.

He did, but it wasn't only him. Steelers were winning 17-14 with 8:16 left in the game, and just made a huge stop against the Bengals at the Bengals' 24. The Bengals punt, Ricardo Colclough fumbles the punt, and the Bengals score a TD one play later. 21-17 Bengals.

On the ensuing kick-off, the Bengals kick a touchback. Willie Parker runs up the gut for a 6 yard gain. Verron Haynes is switched in and makes another nice run, gaining 6 yards up the gut... and then fumbles the ball. The Bengals get the ball on their 30, and score the next play.

In a span of one minute, the Bengals scored 14 unanswered points off of two turnovers. The Colclough fumble is especially irritating, as he's muffed the ball every single time he's tried to return a punt this season. There was no reason for him to be returning punts today.

Simms didn't lose this one. After the opening INT he was OK (not great, but OK). It was his second-half play that gave us any chance at winning. Oh, and he played with a ruptured spleen for a good part of the game and had to have it removed tonight, to boot.

Bad play-calling (a downfield pass on third and short when a first down ices the game?) - which no quarterback can overcome - and defensive lapses (how in hell do you not have a linebacker covering the middle of the field on that fourth down?) were what blew this one. It's obvious at this point that the D has lost a couple of steps this year.

Nevertheless, despite the loss, we took some positive steps today. I'll just pray that it translates to something positive when we go into Bayou Country in two weeks, even though we'll be starting Gradkowski for the next month...

                                Yeah, the season's over.
