At least the Predators' preseason is underway, so I have something better to watch than yet another disaster.

Word is that Fisher wasn't behind the Collins move...nor did he agree with it.

Bud decided that Volek did not have enough "flash" to carry the Titans image, so he ordered him removed. Seems that Bud has been getting more and more involved in the personell decisions...

On the Titans:

I think that while the Raiders are obviously the worst team in football, the Titans are the worst-managed team in football.

Going into 2006, they had an average franchise quarterback with an absurd contract (due to poor cap management), and instead of renegotiating civilly, they lock him out of their practice facilities, make it obvious that they don’t want him, and get only a second-day pick for him in a trade, because it’s clear they’ll cut him anyway.

Fortunately, they have a very well-regarded backup and a high draft pick. A reasonable strategy is to use the well-regarded backup until a top-picked quarterback is ready. They have an offensive coordinator who worked with arguably the most NFL-ready and best quarterback in the draft. Said coordinator lobbies heavily for the quarterback he worked with. Instead, the Titans go with a different quarterback. Not a huge deal, though. They’ve still got a great transition quarterback until the new one is ready. So it seems like their plan is pretty clear.

But no, ten days before week one, they hire a quarterback who was bad enough and old enough that the Raiders ditched him for Aaron Brooks, and they start him immediately over both of their homegrown quarterbacks after a 10 day crash course in the playbook. He’s completed about 38 or 39 percent of his passes across the first two games.

I think it’s about time that somebody asked the Titans front office what the hell they’re doing. They started making bad personnel decisions around 2000 after the Superbowl run. Of Derrick Mason, Samari Rolle, Jevon Kearse, Steve McNair, and Eddie George, they picked the wrong two players to sign to absurd contracts. The first three are productive elsewhere, and they tried to keep all of them for a while, but they just ended up in cap hell with the worst two players of those five. Now they're in cap hell and they don't even have either of them. "Win now" philosophies can kill you for years.

So what are they doing with Kerry Collins now? Is this another "win now" decision? Well, I've got news for them. They aren't going to win now. They aren't even close to winning now. They are so far from winning now that if winning now were to explode, they wouldn't hear the tremors for six weeks. (At which point the tremors would be promoted above Billy Volek on the depth chart.)

Worst management in football. Period.

Titans worse than the Lions? At least they've been to the Super Bowl. I would think more playoffs, too, in recent years. The Lions have struggled to reach mediocrity. Maybe you don't like the recent QB changes, but at least the Titans had a good QB. And as far as QB contracts, the Lions also gave Charlie Batch too much money. Oh, wait - don't forget Scott Mitchell. These guys were backups. And need I mention the Lions' draft busts?

He was a backup on the Dolphins(?), when the Lions signed him as a free agent, for more money than he was worth. Yes, he did have one good year. Then he sucked. That's why Batch got too much money - because he wasn't as bad as Mitchell.

Oh, I forgot to mention Millen's 5-yr contract extension, for just a few wins a year.

Yes.He had one good year, and then I believe signed a big contract, only to revert to his standard.
