You'd be surprised, but you can actually find a lot of stylish clothes at J.C.Penny. Stop rolling your eyes! I'm serious. I was shocked when we went in to Penny's to lok for work clothes for Bunnygrrl, who was working at Sax at the time. We actually found a lot of stylish stuff. One of my cowrokers shops there, and he looks sharp. You just gotta have a good eye and know how to shop and you can find some really good stuff.

My curse, however, is working across the street from Nordstroms and Neiman's, the former of which I have to trek through to get to the cafe where I get my coffee.

The Nordies cafe is very nice though not nice enough to justify the $8 price for a coffee.

I'll have to check out a few of the discounters like J.C. Penny's. I have to admit I have dismissed them in the past without even looking at what they had to offer because I just assumed it would suck. Maybe they do have some very nice items for a reasonable price.

I love Nordies clothes selection but their prices are outragous. I will comparison shop there and then look online for cheaper prices. About the only time I will actually buy things at Nordies is during their twice yearly sale (the only sale Nordies offers) though everyone mobs the place at that time so if you want to get the good stuff you have to get their early because it sells out in the blink of an eye.

No, there isn't. Clothes for "clubbing" are intended to impress others (otherwise why not just grab a nice t-shirt?)
A nice shirt, label or no label, looks good on a person, which is important when you go clubbing. Sure, it's to impress others, not by the label, but by the fit, the material, etc. A "nice t-shirt" (there's an oxymoron for you) wouldn't do.

I only pay five bucks, and that includes being an enorme, four-shot, sugar free hazelnut, breve latte (breve meaning using half and half instead of milk). Makes my heart soar just thinking about it.

The cool thing about "my" Nordies is that it's in Coral Gables, so the clientel isn't all that concerned with sales, so the store doesn't get mobbed.

Then you are lucky. Where I live the really rich keep the Nordies going day to day but the asperational people who don't normally shop there (due to not wanting to pay $150 per shirt) only shop during the two sales they offer per year.

Over a decade ago when I was really broke, I bought a suit a J.C. Penneys. Since then, I've bought suits at Nordstroms and elsewhere.

And which is the one suit I get compliments on -- the Penneys suit. Go figure.

A couple of years ago, I started buying a lot of my dress shirts there as well....and getting lots of compliments.

Except the t-shirt part. I see alot of people wearing really nice designer t-shirts in clubs. But that's probably not what Imran had in mind when he was talking about a nice t-shirt. I would pay 100$ to see Imran in a tight-fitting Dolce & Gabana T-shirt

A 'nice shirt' ain't the same thing as an 'affordable copy of designer clothes'. You can buy decent shirts from Macy's, Penny's, etc., without it being a copy of designer clothes.

And of course there are nice t-shirts . Though, they do look better on some than others.

I recall reading the book "The Millionaire Next Door" where it described who the average American millionaire was, what his lifestyle was, where he shopped, etc... Not surprisingly the people who accumulated large amounts of capital did it not because they made more then everyone else but because they saved more then everyone else. A very large number of people making six digit salaries are living pay check to pay check because they are caught in the consumerist trap buying ever more expensive cars, paying to much for clothes, and buying everything just to keep up with the Jones'.

Some interesting stats were that the average American millionaire drives a Ford Thaurus, bought his suit at J.C. Penny's, and still clips coupons & shops around to get the lowest prices on everything. It's called not being foolish and knowing the value of a dollar. That's why they have the capital and people who make more per year don't have the capital.

By not buying things they don't really need much, like designer clothes (or even knockoffs), or nice cars.

When my big brother was making his first couple of million, he drove a Mustang. At first, he was living in an apartment, then later moved into a condo. Even after he felt he could afford a good house (and take the equity escalator), his furiture was still crapp.

True, you don't really need them. But if you can get like items or just similiar items for substantially less then you are well ahead of the game. It's all about bang for the buck and not being wasteful.

While outwardly portraying an image of high priced apparel . It's what we like to call 'poseurs' .

How about deciding those clothes are too expensive and wear something that you like to wear that aren't the high price tag. Hint, those clothes aren't that expensive only because of the tag on the back. Macy's and Penny's has those shirts for high prices as well (just checked online).

So wearing nice clothes which don't cost alot is being a posser in your book?

                                I call that being smart.
