    • We're all down on him for getting suckered and therefore we are obviously lame.

      • Go back to wearing your t-shirt and leave those of us who actually like to look good discuss the important stuff.

BTW I'm loving Bluefly.com and Overstock.com. Designer clothes 40%-60% off every day.

NPR has a great article on this stuff. Knock offs (that is very close copies without the label) of $2000 suits being sold for $600. Often times the Asian company which makes the designer label clothes will use the same fabric and design at 50% less for the nonlabel version. This isn't being a poser to buy this stuff; it's being smart.

Some clothing designers are watching this week's fashion shows in New York with an eye to knocking off their competitors' designs. Like the music industry, the fashion business is rife with unauthorized copying. But it's relatively free of infringement lawsuits like the ones the major record labels recently filed. NPR's Rick Karr reports as part of Morning Edition's series on the style industry.

            • Generally I agree with that statement. I like to feel the fabric, look to make sure there aren't manufacturing errors, try it on to make sure it fits, etc... But the prices are really good and I'm thinking their fitting guide is pretty comprehensive though I will need to find a tape measure some where to be sure I get the fit just right.

I reserve the right to make fun of you while you discuss clothing.

I did give you Overstock after all.

                ACK!

                • It was helpful to be reminded about overstock.com though it wasn't the first time I'd been there. I actually bought my watch there two years ago but had not gone back due to a billing dispute I had with them; I bought some berkinstocks from them, they said they were out of stock but would get more, eventually they decided they weren't getting more of the color I wanted, and then they gave me store credit for the sandles I had already paid for. I was upset because I paid them with my debit card and I wanted my card charges reversed so I could use the cash any where but they only wanted to give me store credit. Eventually they gave me my money back but I was pissed off and didn't go back for two years.

That said they did deliver on the Bulova watch I bought from them. The retail price was around $600 but overstock sold it for something like $189. I guess their deals were to good for me to stay mad with them.

Don't get me wrong the fabric, finish, and style of those clothes were great but I refuse to pay $100-$150 for a shirt or $150
Take Leonard Cohen's advice and try Salvation Army counters (as in 'Suzanne').

I happily buy most of my clothes from charity shops and I've yet to catch any communicable diseases. Among the better buys were a rather nifty trench coat from Kenneth Barnard, a woollen Jeff Banks overcoat, and assorted vintage Sixties ties (mod style, with sraight edged ends). None were copies, knock offs or seconds.

I know you have charity shops in California, 'cos when I was in Calistoga I was told how good they were in that part of the world...
