Indeed they had the best 'team' and I'm glad that players like Gattuso, Buffon, Cannavaro, Pirlo got their hands on the hardware, but, unfortunately Materazzi and De Rossi ruin the squad's reputation.

I did. The Portugal game was painful to watch, and marshalling your team to a 1-0 win over a team that didn't deserve to be there was no big feat. And Ribery was a larger influence in the Spain game, which France wouldn't have won if not for Henry's disgusting dive.

Regardless, someone who picked up two yellow cards in the group stage (and was suspended for the only game France won in the group stage), and a red card for the foul of the World Cup didn't deserve the award over Cannavaro, who played every single minute of the tournament, and conceded only two goals, neither of which he could have done anything about.

            • Italy with Cannavaro gets to the Semis if not the Final. France without Zidane loses to Spain (after all, after Henry's dive, who served the ball in for the goal?)

                • That was my impression too, it took for too long otherwise.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?

Henry was fouled. The freekick was legit. The goal was legit. There was no dive.

Henry was wrong to clutch his face, but clutching your face when you've been fouled in the chest is not a dive. It's wrong, but not a dive.

Technically you are correct, but it appears to me that 'dive' has also taken on embellishing injury or fouls in order to get a call. I do agree he was fouled, however.

Perhaps we need a sin of 'embellishment' to distinguish it from its more serious sibling-sin of 'diving'.

yes, 4th ref, that's what I meant. but has it been confirmed that he saw it on video? No...? The 4th ref can't stop the game, he can only get the ref's attenion during halts in the game, hence the delay to hand out the red card.
                                well we'll see
