Zidane's action very well might have cost France a World Cup championship. IN that respect, its far worse a thing than Materazzi being a complete ****. It does not matter what was said to Zidane, you ignore it and play. People making "rationalizations" are missing the point. It was a dumb and totally selfish thing for Zidane to do, and he deserves any flack he gets for it.

Cause in the end, Zidane made Materazzi a champion. Since so many of you hate Materazzi's guts, why defend the man that let that **** get to kiss the trophy?

Congratulations to Italy for an excellent set of penalties. Germany would have been proud of that shoot-out, and it gives me hope, as an England fan, that a country with a history of penalty disappointment can one day turn it round.

I think that the clip that Imran linked to gives a pretty accurate profile of the kind of player that Materazzi is, and of the reputation that he has in Italy. As a Milan fan, I'm sure DF has a personal opinion or two on those studs-first fouls on Shevchenko and other Milan players by the Inter hardman.

For me, the moment of the match was Henry brilliantly beating several defenders to get clear in the box, but no-one was able to get onto the knock-back.

I'm happy for Gattuso, as the guy runs his socks off every match, and he had a good tournament. Generally I think Italy played more good football in the campaign than most sides, and showed a lot of quality. Although I wanted France last night, I'm far happier for Italy to take the prize home than say, Portugal, Argentina or Brazil.

As for drunken Finnish wannabe Italian ultra-nationalists ....
