Thankfully I was able to watch most game on Spanish television, thought was forced to watch the final on ABC....

I don't think he thought about it. Zidane seemed willing to give the best performance he could before leaving the stage, so that he can be remembered fondly. And this headbutt will be a stain on his memory.

Univision's numbers have been good, but for the Mexico match against Argentina, I think that Univision got 5-6 million viewers. But for an all European final, I'm not sure how many watched it. So maybe 15 million viewers (16-18 if they were REALLY lucky) total.

And I enjoyed the ABC/ESPN coverage

Really? I find it interesting that anyone does give a damn about it. I don´t. Especially when Materazzi was the target.

I haven't seen the headbutt, but for some reason I doubt it was really hard enough to make a man fall down.

It was pretty hard... though I agree with Herra. I don't think it'll be a stain. Maybe for a few years, but Zidane is one of the best players in soccer history It'll go away.

At least in France, we don't care one tiny bit about Materazzi. We care about Zidane. And the headbutt (whose records are of excellent quality) will be known for quite some time to come.

Not enough to make him fall, definitely. But enough to put some dirt into an otherwise spotless legend.

Spotless? Zidane is a great player, quite probably the greatest player France has ever had, but this isn't the first time that he has been seen behaving rudely.
