And of course -40C is superior to anything else on Earth. It is a right of passage, and those who can't get about in it are unworthy.
I'm actually Romanian-Canadian-American by citizenship. I live in France at the moment (so my location field is correct). The English flag is on account of the World Cup. I was spending a summer at Oxford the last time Romania didn't qualify, so I picked England as my team to support. The Romanian team has continued to suck, and so my support for the English team has become a bit more entrenched now. (Normally, I use the Welsh flag because I like the flag. This does tend to confuse people who use their flag to make a statement.)

But the proximate reason to consider return to Quebec is the fact that I've been accepted at McGill, and I'm seriously considering more education. The part about me sucking at life is partially due to my failure to apply enough places in time, which leaves me with just one choice: McGill. On the bright side, one more anti-separatist vote

As for temperature lows, the lowest I've experienced was -50 on my first day of attempting to ski at Mont Sainte Anne. We decided not to ski that day, but I did wander about the parking lot a bit just to feel the cold.

Well, here you will join a lot of people who suck at football, so you may as well continue to cheer for England as I do.

And one more vote for Canada is never a bad thing, in my book.

However, never decieve yourself that you have felt cold till you spend a winter on the prairies, or in Siberia.

Don't get stupid on me here. I'm not saying that the default action should be to change the woman's name to match the man's...which it wasn't in 1981, as the fact that my mother kept her maiden name by not doing anything can attest to; I'm saying that even if the default is no change then the government shouldn't be in the ****ing business of telling people what to call themselves. Talk about paternalistic.
It's like the headscarf ban... it was thought that the cultural stigma around name change was so heavy that most women didn't really have a choice. Don't have to agree, but it shows that the picture is not as monochrome as you're painting it.

That's always the ****ing climate. Quebec is the little guy, surrounded by the evil Anglos. Let's make everybody buy blue and white speakers for their computers. Let's make it illegal to wear adidas during months containing an "i"
And guess what? Quebec emancipated itself through a ****ing decolonization movement, so YES, it's a different climate and a different situation.
As for the cegeps, you're being a crybaby. The only negative thing I can see about them is that you need a bit more paperwork to make it equivalent to a High School diploma, if you plan to study abroad. Big deal.
Why change the system if it works? Do you have night fantasies about upheaval costs?

Not allowing women to change their name is a consequence of the quiet revolution: it's a kind of affirmative action.

That's some really tortured logic right there.

What a silly, silly thing to ram down people's throats. And a really annoying one, at that.

Not at all. A lot of contracts are deemed abusive and made illegal by states everywhere. This particular case (name change) may be debatable, but I don't see why it has to degenerate into Quebec bashing. What's certain is that the explanation for it being there is more than 'OMG we suck so much that we have to be different!'

You're the reason the Quebec government gets to keep being so full of ****, be it péquiste or Liberal.

That would be a little more realistic if Quebec was a fully independent country. Being a part of Canada, however, there was a fully functional standard practice used across the rest of the country that would only make sense to adopt if change was deemed necessary.

Who the hell needs a ****ing reason like that? The basis for the law is ****ing idiotic in the first place.
